Type: 32-oz. growler
Glass: Melvin 14-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
From: Pure Project Brewing in Balboa Park (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $12.00 (20 pct. off w/ AHA card)
Purchased: Oct. 9, 2019
Consumed: Oct. 9, 2019
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Misc.: Growled on Oct. 9, 2019
Grabbed a growler of this after a flight. Went there for the 20 percent off for Wednesday growlers, but it appeared after that I didn’t get the deal, just the 20 percent off with the AHA card. I had this twice before, first giving it a 4.25 on Aug. 10, 2018 and then having it again tonight. The Untappd description read, “With an ABV of 6.66%, this beast comes at you out of the gates with Nelson, Citra, Galaxy and Mosaic hops providing you with fragrant aromas of tropical and stone fruits. Tastes of ripe fruit and citrus emerge over a subtle bitterness.”
Poured a medium yellow hazy color with three fingers of off-white frothy head. No bubbles underneath the head. Outstanding spotty lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled Nelson, Mosaic and Citra right away with some Galaxy on the back end. Also stone fruit, peach, mango, tangerine, weed, dank resin, pine, white wine and grapefruit. Also a touch of pilsner malt. (Smell - 4.50)
Taste was not as good as the nose, but still solid. In order got Nelson, Galaxy, Mosaic and Citra for the hops. Also stone fruit, peach, weed, resin, dank pine, white wine, tangerine, orange rind, mango, floral, grapefruit and pineapple. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Juicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Just as good as the first time I had it. Excellent. (Overall - 4.25)

I have no idea when I traded for this as it was yet another beer in my basement stash that I took a while to get around to. I get the satanic references here between this beer's name, imagery, and ABV but disregarding that, this was a typical American IPA that bordered on being a New England IPA. If you're into those styles, this wouldn't be a bad choice as it had plenty going for it...
A cloudy and chalky light grainy hue topped with a sufficient head was this beer's first impression on me. Not a lot of lacing was left behind aside from a thin collar and some splotches representing rings below them. Lots of hops here although none on particular stood out above the others as some white grape from the Nelson and underlying weedy dankness from the Galaxy could be discerned in the taste. Hints of wheat, blueberry juice, citrus juice, and berry slickness came through in the taste along with basic malt and a lively presence of bubbles. Underlying dankness, dew, wet grass, and earthy hops emerged as this fully warmed up but the brighter notes that hit me initially were what I'd remember this beer by.
Not a lot of booze here but what was present complemented everything else here quite nicely. This wasn't a bad beer but in a crowded field, this didn't stand out from the pack. Those looking for something complex and enjoyable won't be disappointed by this but in the end, this was a brew with a lot of gimmicks on the label but was closer to the middle of the pack when it came to it's essence. Fine for a single go-around...

Was looking forward to trying this when gifted it. Really not good.
Looks like a NEIPA. Little head or lacing.
Smell is completely non existent. I mean, nothing.
Taste is like the smell. There's just nothing going on. There's some sweetness, and some butter. But nothing resembling hops or malt. Weird.
Mouthfeel is soft with next to no carb.
Overall, just a really poor beer. Maybe I got a bad can, but either way, it's a pretty poor attempt at a NEIPA. Just a bad beer in general.

Just a great NE style IPA. To me this is virtually identical to foggy window with a little more hop bite. One of pure projects top IPA efforts.

Excellent east coast style IPA. Very juicy, good blend of hops, and pleasant mineral qualities. I have yet to have a bad IPA by pure project.
