Type: 32-oz. growler
Glass: Clear 14.75-oz. porter/stout tulip
From: Pure Project Brewery in Miramar (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $16.00

Reviewed as: Imperial Porter
Misc.: Collaboration between Pure Project and Ocelot Brewing Company
Picked this up at Pure Project after a nice time at AleSmith for Emily’s third birthday party. Planned on grabbing a 32-oz. growler of something at AleSmith, but always had Murklands (Amarillo or Vic Secret) as back-up plans at Pure Project. Walked into Pure Project while Rachel and Clara waited in the car and decided on Midnight Hour instead of Murklands - Amarillo after seeing the description of an imperial porter with coconut and vanilla on the board and seeing it as a 4.33 at the time on Untappd. Second straight night that I saw Ocelot as a collaborator of a San Diego brewery as I had a DIPA at Pizza Port the night before. Anyway, glad I made the switch to Midnight Hour (despite being $4 more than Murklands - Amarillo) because I tried the Murkland - Amarillo and didn’t like it as much as I had the others. Anyway, was looking forward to trying it.
Poured a black color with two fingers of frothy tan head. Lots of little bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent uneven foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled roasty malts, toasted coconut flakes, vanilla, chocolate, nuts and hints of menthol. Was getting Almond Joy as it warmed somewhat. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted even better than the nose, especially as it warmed. Got coconut flakes, vanilla, Almond Joy, chocolate, roasty malts, nuts, icy mint (which is probably just coconut) and just a touch of char wood. Nowhere near that 8.5 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.50)
Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Although I am a sucker for coconut beers, this was excellent. Just the right amount of coconut. (Overall - 4.25)
