Snuck over to Pure Project in Balboa Park basically for this beer. Grabbed this as my fifth taster of my first flight, which was labeled on the board as a, “Boubon barrel-aged stout with cinnamon, graham cracker and marshmallows.” Broke my rule and reviewed a taster because I didn’t want to pay $13 for a full pour.
Poured a dark brown color with one finger of dark khaki tan head when I got it. Light bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Outstanding lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled marshmallow, vanilla, cinnamon, graham crackers, caramel, toffee, chocolate syrup and s’mores. Was not getting any bourbon on the nose. (Smell - 4.25)
Wow for the taste. In order got marshmallow, vanilla, smooth bourbon, toasted oak, graham cracker, cinnamon, caramel, chocolate syrup, toffee, s’mores, semi-char wood and burnt marshmallow. The 12.3 percent was well hidden. (Taste - 4.50)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Just a world-class beer overall. Glad I got to try it. (Overall - 4.50)
