Our very first double bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout—and the oldest non-sour beer we've ever released—Frozen in Time has been "in stasis" since June 2019, long before we knew what 2020 would bring. It rested in Breckenridge bourbon barrels for 10 months before being transferred into different Breckenridge bourbon barrels for another 8 months. Reflecting the pitch-black darkness of the barrels from which it emerged, this beer emanates a jet-black color with dark brown head. Long awaited aromas of marzipan, cinnamon and dates waft alongside flavors of bourbon, chocolate, and coffee. A glimpse of yesteryear preserved in a bottle, this well-balanced beer exposes a depth of character that only time—and the finest bourbon barrels—can illuminate.

Bought this on its release day. Just sounded terrific without any adjuncts. The description on the Pure Project was “Our very first double bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout—and the oldest non-sour beer we’ve ever released—Frozen in Time has been “in stasis” since June 2019, long before we knew what 2020 would bring. Poured a pittch-black color with two fingers of frothy brown head. Pretty calm setting underneath the head with no noticeable bubbles. Decent spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
First thought on the smell was that it reminded me of something The Bruery would make. Got milk chocolate, chocolate syrup, boozy bourbon, leathery oak, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa, caramel, plum and date. Got so much better as it warmed. Not as good from the bottle, but much smoother. (Smell - 4.50)
Damn. That initial taste. So damn smooth. Specifically chocolate syrup, milk chocolate, leathery oak, vanilla, cocoa, boozy bourbon, cinnamon, maple syrup, caramel, plum and date. Did not taste anywhere near 16.5 pct ABV. (Taste - 4.50)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 5.00)
Just an absolute amazing beer. I think I slightly underrated this too. One of the best non-adjunct BA stouts I’ve ever had. (Overall - 4.50)
