Like yin and yang, or a chocolate cookie filled with vanilla cream, we bring you a balanced but decadent imperial stout, ready for indulging. Aged in rye whiskey barrels with organic Ghanaian cocoa and organic Tahitian vanilla beans, this stout’s jet-black body gives way to aromas of whiskey-soaked lady fingers and fudge. Its flavors of brownie batter, toasted marshmallow, and dark molasses wash through with a velvety mouthfeel. Designed to embody the complementary and contrasting expressions of chocolate and vanilla, we hope you enjoy the beauty of this duality, or should we say, dualité.

Consumed: March 20, 2021
Misc.: Collab with WeldWerks; Bottled on Dec. 16, 2020; Black waxed neck
Ordered this on Pure Project’s website when I saw WeldWerks. A barrel-aged stout sealed the deal. Email description was “Like yin and yang, or a chocolate cookie filled with vanilla cream, we bring you a balanced but decadent imperial stout, ready for indulging. Poured a pittch-black color with 1-to-2 fingers of khaki-tan frothy head. Pretty much calm underneath with a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Outstanding spotty lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled milk chocolate, cocoa, lightly toasted marshmallow, vanilla, brownie batter, fudge, spicy rye, boozy whiskey barrel and molasses. Not as good from the bottle, but maybe the addition of maple syrup. (Smell - 4.25)
First thing I thought about was how smooth it was for 10.5 pct. Really nice. Got milk chocolate, cocoa, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, chocolate syrup, brownie batter, fudge, spicy rye, smooth whiskey barrel, sticky molasses, chocolate/vanilla swirl ice cream and baker’s chocolate. (Taste - 4.25)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 5.00)
Damn. Really liked this. Felt like I underrated this slightly. Just such a smooth beer for what it was. Probably not worth $32 but still good. (Overall - 4.50)
