Buzzing into cans is our very first murky IPA with honey, Apian. We wanted to challenge ourselves to get honey character in a fruit-forward IPA, and it turned out just as we’d hoped. Mosaic, Citra, and Cashmere hops create a bouquet of tropical fragrances including pineapple, orange, guava and passion fruit, which are complemented by the addition of locally harvested wildflower honey from Mikolich Honey and a touch of honey malt. Flavors of raw honey drizzled atop a fresh fruit bowl ensue. Cheers to the worker bees—of both the apian and brewing varieties—for this seasonally unique creation.

Got a can of this from Kevin. Pure’s website called it “Buzzing into cans is our very first murky IPA with honey, Apian. Poured a medium golden murky color with three fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see plenty of bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. World-class spiderweb foamy lacing. World-class foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled honey, herbal, candied pineapple juice (Trader Joe’s comes to mind), guava, grapefruit and citrus zest. Wasn’t getting any Mosaic, but Cashmere and Citra for sure. A little better out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted almost as good as the nose. Honey still jumped out, followed by herbal, Trader Joe’s pineapple juice, guava, grapefruit peel, Cashmere, Citra, citrus zest, apricot and hints of stone fruit, (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Very good overall but a bit of a disappointment for a Pure Project beer. (Overall - 3.75)
