Collaboration with Alvarado Street
This year, we’re taking our fourth annual Cannery Row collaboration with Alvarado Street to the next level. Another ode to Steinbeck, Cup of Gold is a double IPA bountifully hopped with Strata and Mosaic. Expect a tropical bouquet of pineapple, guava, and cherimoya on the nose, followed by tangelo and mango on the palette. With that sweet flavor and soft golden body, you’ll want to refill your cup.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. brandy snifter glass
Price: $4.60 (20 pct. off a normal 4-pack ($23) with AHA card)
From: From: Pure Project Brewing in Balboa Park (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: May 7, 2021
Consumed: June 4, 2021
Misc.: Collab with Alvarado Street; Canned on May 4, 2021; Split 4-pack with Sonny
Had Sonny pick me up a can of this and another one at Pure Project. Had it once at Pure Project on May 16, giving a taster a 4.25 on Untappd and writing “Excellent for now. Could change with a can I have.” Pure Project email description was “This year, we’re taking our fourth annual Cannery Row collaboration with Alvarado Street to the next level. Poured a medium gold (~6-7 SRM) hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see some bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass and more when I moved the glass. Almost perfect spiderweb foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled big mixed berry initially. Also Mosaic, floral, rose blossom, mango, guava, Strata, pineapple, red grapefruit, grass, weed, pine and more tropical fruit. Just as good from the can, might have added some passion fruit here. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste wasn’t quite as good but still excellent. More Strata than the nose. Got Strata, red grapefruit, pineapple, mixed berry, grass, floral, rose blossom, weed, pine needle, Mosaic, mango, guava, passion fruit, Fruity Pebbles cereal milk, orange, tropical pulp and lingering peppery spice. The 8.4 pct. ABV was well hidden. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Just an excellent hazy DIPA, which I would expect from these guys together. Glad I grabbed a can. (Overall - 4.25)
