Introducing Sweet Retreat, our newest smoothie beer inspired by a popular dessert: blueberry shortcake! We created a complex malt base for this brew to create flavors of graham cracker crust with a slight tang that reminds us of cheesecake. After fermentation, we took it a step further by adding 2,400 pounds of organic blueberries from Washington. The result? A deep purple concoction that features aromas of melted blueberry ice cream and pecan praline cookies, with flavors of mixed berries and fresh blueberry jam.

Sonny picked a can of this for me. A Pure Project email called this beer “Introducing Sweet Retreat, our newest smoothie beer inspired by a popular dessert: blueberry shortcake! Poured a reddish chestnut brown murky color with one finger of fizzy purple-white head. Could see plenty of bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass at different speeds. Perfect layered foamy lacing. Almost perfect bubbly, foamy retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled blueberry, purple grape, vanilla, mixed berry, blueberry jam, pecan cookie (thanks to the description) and hints of vomit. A little better out of the can. (Smell - 3.50)
Tasted a little better than the nose. In order got blueberry, purple grape, vanilla, mixed berry, blueberry jam, pecan cookie (thanks to the description) and vomit (yes, vomit). (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This got a little better as it went down, Very good overall. (Overall - 3.75)
