Originally part of our dark-light series, this dark as dusk sour is back. Drenched in juicy local blueberries and deep purple blackberries, we embrace the changing of the light and the moments that dusk brings with it; self reflection, deep conversation, and crackling fires.

Can: Poured a clear dark/black color ale with a medium size off-white foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt notes with some tart notes with some clear blackberry and blueberry notes. Taste is also a good mix of blueberry and blackberry notes with some roasted malt and tart notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. I’m not a big of the style but this was quite tasty.

16oz can split between a few sample glasses. In-laws brought it back from Victoria.
Pours murky purple, fizzy with little retention. Smell is vague berry and a little kettle sour.
Taste is lots of jammy berry, a little kettle sour. Moderately juicy.
Mouthfeel is kind of light, lifted by the effervescence. Overall, not bad.

Murky burgundy color. Pours a short, pink head that collapsed to a patchy skiff in half a minute. Too murky to see the carbonation level. Left no lacing.
Sour yeast funk smell. Lighter berry scent; more blueberry than blackberry. Swirling the glass kicked up more of the sour funk and a hint of barnyard that lasted for a couple of seconds.
Tart flavor with a strong yeast funk. Light berry that grows stronger as it warms up. Light white pepper. Builds up to a medium bitter with an unusual wood flavor, like ground up twigs and small branches as opposed to oak from a barrel. Aftertaste starts quite bitter and then a fresh berry shows up for a few seconds.
Not much tongue tingling, but still very foamy. The foam triggered an early swallow response that made it difficult to hold it in my mouth for extended tasting. The white pepper flavor seemed slightly warming. Somewhat astringent, especially during the aftertaste.
Overall very strong flavor tending towards a Saison or Lambic with a very light touch of berry. There is no mistaking this for a cooler. The only aspect I didn't like was the strange wood flavor. It was as if entire bushes had been ground up and added to the mix instead of just the berries.
