Cloudy yellow-tan color. Poured a very tall head of medium sized bubbles that was extremely noisy (liquid fireworks) as it dropped down to a nothing in half a minute. Too cloudy to see the carbonation level. No lacing because there is no head left.
Spicy, fruity, funk blend of smells. The funk has an unusual but pleasant smell that is something like partially burned sugar; it smells both sweet and charred. The fruit expands to a sweet blend of not-quite-orange and green table grapes. It smells more like another type of fruit entirely than a blend of the two. Just a hint of hops and malt. Swirling the glass kicks up some horseblanket for a couple of seconds, then boosts the funk for a while.
Quite sour. The funk is part way along the spectrum towards a flavor that disagrees with me; it is hard to place, but either I am getting used to it or the flavor is shifting as it warms up or oxidizes. Just a bit spicy. Very light fruit; the funk seems to cover up most of the fruit. The aftertaste starts out with a blast of sour and a milder funk. After a while most of the flavors fade away leaving a very distinct tart orange. This slowly fades down to a tart flavor.
Mild tongue tingling, but it quickly turns into a coarse bubbled foam that reminded me of the initial head. Instead of intense prickling, the carbonation feels like bits of dry dust on my tongue. This is one strange beer.
The strange mutating flavor has me puzzled. I think I need to try this again starting with a colder temperature than normal, and let it warm up to see if there is a temperature range to avoid.
[Next day] I started with regular fridge temperature and the odd funk flavor was even stronger. Or it may have been that the other flavors were suppressed by the cold. I covered the glass and let it warm up close to room temperature... okay, this is temperature based. I prefer this closer to room temperature.
