Ah, this is one of those classic Hudson Valley sour IPAs, with all the delicious tart strawberry accented by green, popping hops that meld into the grape. So unique and so satisfying.

Deep violet appearance, little to no legs or head. Smell is sweet strawberry jam. Taste is like a strawberry sangria smoothie with a bit of citrus (i guess that's the bergamot the other review explained), the wine/grape flavor overpowers the sweetness of the strawberries. Pretty much no hoppiness, maybe a tinge of bitterness on the finish that mixes with the slight bergamot citrus flavor but I may be dumb. Body is not as lush and rich as I would have liked it to be, most of the HV sour IPAs have this thick richness that heightens the enjoyment IMO, this is thinner like a berliner or a sour, very drinkable though. Would definitely drink a whole four pack if I was drunk.

On tap at Hudson Valley Brewery in Beacon, NY.
This one pours a very hazy reddish purple color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like a grape smoothie, with strawberry jam, citrusy and floral tea, vanilla, and lemon ice.
Like most HVB sour DIPAs, this is exceptionally wonky, but it works fairly well for me. I'm surprised the bergamot actually comes through, with the heavy handed strawberry grape and strawberry addition, but it does. I guess bergamot is actually a type of citrus, and not actual tea - it's just used to flavor tea and make Earl Grey. But I think the suggestion of tea is giving me a tea-like flavor here, along with a dry citrusiness. The grapes comes through quite strongly, almost feeling like blackberry wine. It definitely adds a more defined sweetness than some wine grapes. I don't get much feeling that this is supposed to be (kind of) an IPA. It could have been hopped with anything - I don't specifically pick out anything resembling Mosaic or Simcoe.
This is chewy and creamy, with a good level of carbonation, and a very high level of drinkability. It does down so easily - no hint of the slightly higher ABV.
I expected to like Symmetrical Garden better of these two new releases. It was definitely surprising to be more taken with this one. Hudson Valley continues to blaze a weird new trail. The trail doesn't necessarily *need* to be blazed, but I'm glad they're doing it.
