Bière de Coupage (Blended Farmhouse Ale). 375 ml.
The return of Funk Land. Our first release of this beer was May of 2016, where we blended a farmhouse blond ale with an experimental golden sour ale that had aged for several months. It was a great mix of fresh hoppy flavours, with complex brett funk. We released two more different blends following the first.
Since those original batches we knew we wanted to brew and blend a new version. This time with a hoppier young beer, and something aged longer in oak. The blending of young and aged beer is a style called “Bière de Coupage”, a beer for cutting or blending. Our latest batch of Funk Land for release this week is a blend of young (Merlot) Barrel Fermented Farmhouse Ale Dry-Hopped with bright American hops blended with a Golden Sour Ale aged 18 months in a Chardonnay oak barrel.
The result is a 7.0% abv beer, straw yellow in colour with light haze from the dry-hopping. Aromatics of pear, grape, barnyard funk and citrus. The flavour is more citrus, peach, melon, oak, funk and subtle vanilla backed with a light and balanced acidity. Dry as can be, yet still full in body from plenty of flaked wheat and barley in both base beers. A deliciously crisp, quenching and funky blended farmhouse ale.

Bottle: Poured a pale yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of funky Brett notes with dry rustic malt notes is quite nice. Taste is a great mix of funky Brett notes with some dry rustic malt notes, some oak and some vinous notes. Body is about average with great spritz carbonation. Wonderful blend of beers with nice complexities and high drinkability.
