This special twist on a farmhouse ale was brewed with 2-row pale barley, Vienna malt, wheat, triticale, spelt, buckwheat, chitted wheat, kvass ‘sour’ rye malt, oat malt, acidulated honey malt, and malted sunflower seeds – all from Valley Malt. This beer is super dry, but balanced with subtle lemon and pepper phenols from the saison yeast and hints of citrus fruit from the addition of Mandarina Bavaria hops. This beautiful, sessionable beer is the perfect summer crusher!

my first beer from these guys, and its satisfying, but maybe somewhat underwhelming. for all the interesting malts that this is built with, its really not quite as interesting either in terms of flavor or texture as i wanted it to be. i mean, malted sunflower seeds? im not sure i have known those in a beer before, i wanted to taste that, for it to be more obvious, but i really did like the beer. it has a dry seeded crackery complexion, like something that belongs on a cheese board, i get the rye for sure and a little of the acidulated malt, a light tang to compliment the saison yeast, which might otherwise be too clean and not rustic enough for a beer so loaded with earthy malts. some winey esters to the yeast but not any funk, this would be superior with a mature brett profile and even a little wood to it, its like a clean grisette type of beer now, tasty, drinkable, and somewhat unique with all these ingredients, but i think its potential isnt fully realized. nice carbonation, some cool body too, and dry to finish with an orangey little hop thing at the end. fun beer, i wanted a bit more from it, but i love the idea, and think the incorporation of these types of grains and these huge mash bills is the way of the future...

Hazy honey color with a 4F head in a Mikasa Tulip. Head resolved quickly.
Strong spicy aroma which dissipates after head resolves.
Medium silky body. Heavier than most Farmhouse ales and less carbonated. I like this.
Licorice, spice taste.
Diverse malt bill.
Excellent Farmhouse Ale. Lots of flavor, with a low ABV: 4.5%.

Canned 7/13/18
Pours a decent foamy bubbly almost 1 finger head that fades at a med pace, a bit of lacing, clear light watery tan color
Nose tons of earthy farmhouse grainy gristy toasty saison malts, raw bread dough, spicy fruity rye, toasted biscuits, some tart slight sour lemony funk, I think souring lacto hint of creamy
Taste a bit different, more cracker dough, cereal grains, more bread dough but a weird bitterness in the back end, really strange bitterness I can't put my finger on, like from herbs or something not hops, a touch of funk earthy farmhouse yeast but not a ton, not really tart or sour either, earthy mushroomy like, woodsy maybe, fruity rye perhaps too, drier finish a bit of a dried lactose flavor, more of that earthy bitterness and herb flavors lingering
Mouth is lighter bod decent fizzy carb
Overall this was a really strange and unique beer, don't think I'm really a big fan of it, but fun to try something completely different

Dated 7/13/18 on the bottom rim of the can, just under 4 weeks since brewing.
Pours a cloudy pale gold in the glass with a finger of sudsy white head that disappeared in seconds. Nose reminds of a fresh assorted bread basket; notes of rye, wheat, grass, honey, toasted white bread, sourdough, citrus peel and lemon. Taste starts off with the citrus peel, lemon and a little pepper and is closely followed by an assortment of toasted light and dark grains. At the end of the sip there's a little funk and a long lingering toasted wheat/rye note. Light effervescent body with above-average carbonation. There's a super refreshing quality to this brew that makes your mouth water. This is my first Grisette and I can't wait to try some more!
