Throwback Vibes is a modern spin on the classic West Coast IPA. We brewed this beer with Galaxy, Citra and Simcoe hops for toned-down bitterness and amplified softness.

Pours an effervescent gold with 3 fingers of pearl colored head. Good head retention, better lacing
S: Bready/doughy, some citrus
T: Dryness, breadyness/doughyness, a little grassyness as well up front. Dry, hints of white grape & pear, grassy as this beer warms up. Finishes dry with hints of white grape & plenty of grassyness
MF: Light/medium body, fairly lively carbonation, so-so balance
They are calling this a West Coast Style IPA, big miss. Okay drinkability at best. 25 point deductions for straying off style almost across the board

Golden color with good white cap and lacing.
Aroma of sweet malt and noticably green, pleasantly citrus hops.
Taste is clean, refreshing and hop forward in a tasty way. Their is a solid malt base but hops are the primary flavoring agent here. The hop blend is skillful enough I don't get high points like lemon or grapefruit, rather a tasty mix of citrus elements that even out in a rounded whole.
Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.
Overall this one doesn't really stand out as more than a competent NEIPA but it certainly runs with the pack.

12 oz can, dated 12/9/20, into GITM skelly big boy.
I've been having a hell of a time finding fresh IPA outside of Parish this time around in Lafayette. I'm not sure if it's COVID related or not, but last time it was a carnival wonderland of fresh beer everywhere. Now I'm lucky if I snag something 6 weeks old. Anywho, this was only a single, because why buy an IPA that old in copious amounts.
This has a nice chill haze to it but otherwise mostly lets light through though not particularly clear. There's a lot of bubbles and particulate (?) in suspension here, but it's very tiny. The head is 1 finger and leaves a nice skirt of lacing around the glass. Let's begin.
From the can I get dirty pine water, oatmeal mash, baby food, clay, chalk, and pears. From the glass I just get bready pears and slight lemongrass.
Flavor is ridiculously harsh right away - like they have to PROVE this west coast thing to the drinker - harsh pine oils, lupulin, bark, orange bitters...then mysteriously disappears as fast as it arrived. In its place is a clean malt profile with hints of toasted barley and oats, then a bit of grapefruit peel and in the distance some sweet orange peel. Curacao remains on the finish.
Feel is biting and acidic which is nice but not indicative of west coast style IPA. Moderate carbonation, equal amount of heat. Some resins on the finish but not overly done.
Overall, just an okay beer. This is not something I'm prone to revisit, even fresh. It doesn't seem to have the DNA to be something that would go the distance in my book. Others may like it, I could see that, but this one is a "skip" for me.
Price paid : $1.99 at Total Crapola
Would buy again : nope

12 fl oz CAN packaged 12/09/20 (one month ago). $9.99 USD plus tax per sixer at a grocery store in Metairie, Louisiana.
"West Coast Style IPA." Brewed with "Galaxy, Simcoe and Citra hops." 6.0% ABV.
Served cold into a stemless wine glass.
Citrus pulp, passionfruit, floral hop flavours, resin. Malt backbone seems to be entirely pale malt. Maybe some wheat?
Looks and tastes unfiltered, which is odd for a beer billed as a West Coast Style IPA. And I'm not sure what "natural flavors" (seen on the label) this was brewed with, but they don't seem necessary or helpful.
Hop profile is mediocre. Lacks depth of hop flavour and hop pungency, tasting more like a pale ale than an IPA.
Drinkable but forgettable. A shrug of an attempt at an IPA from Urban South...very underwhelming.
