Stranger Things is a Gose-inspired sour ale brewed with smoked apples, smoked malts and smoked sea salt. We sourced the apples locally from Boyer's Orchard. We then smoked the apples and malt with our friend Andrew Peterson at Peterson Quality Malts, right across the road from the orchard.

Smokey for sure (Smoked Apples) and definitely tart. An interesting drink that I would only be able to have one of at any sitting.

On tap at the brewery.
This was poured into a tall tulip.
The appearance was a dark glossy copper color with a slight transparency about it. Carbonation wasn't seen rising as I thought it would, but I wasn't bothered. Slim sheet of a little white foamy head slid off to barely leave any lace.
The aroma had some green sweet to tart apple up front with a kind amount of smokiness and then an extremely light kiss of saltiness. No sour-ed wheat.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet to tart green apple with a touch of invasive sourness. Once again, the wheat was barely there. Saltiness was just like in the aroma, just an extremely faint apendage. Aftertaste was all about the green apple and seemed to have a little bit of a funky sort of bleu cheese to it.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied with a fairly good sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. The finish was basically the green apple sweet and tartness with a light smoke and a light funky bleu cheese-like character.
Overall, what an odd gose. I'm left scratching my beard on this one as I think I liked it for me, but gose fans, you might either want to skip this one or make sure you go into this beer with a totally different mindframe. Might be better in early Autumn for this beer.
