a boysenberry sour with lactose, and an excellent beer. usually this milk sugar fruited kettle sour thing is too much for me, too cool kid, new school, copycat, and forced, but this is just really good stuff, and i cant hate. its gorgeous purple in color, and looks sexy in the teku they serve it in at the brewery, frothy just off white head with great retention too. looks a little thick. smells incredible, natural tart fruit, maybe not specifically boysenberry to me, could be blackberry, huckleberry, something like that, even currant, but its appealing, and about as tart on its own as the lactic element in here is. the whole thing smells a little disserty with the lactose, but i still get some grain through it, and its beery enough. the flavor is also nice, not as sweet as it smells at all, and the fruit adds a nice tang. the souring and the fermentation are pretty clean, and its simple beer really, but its very well done, natural to me, and not overdone on the lactose, although this sure does feel creamy, some wheat likely in the mash as well. great carbonation to keep it moving is a welcomed feature, and overall this is summery, playful, and professional, all at the same time. obviously this is a real versatile base set up, but peaches and red wine grapes come to mind as other fruits that would work awfully well here...
