473 mL can from the LCBO, included in a Creemore mixed pack. Coded Aug 7 2025 and served barely chilled.
Pours a relatively clear golden-yellow colour, though there is a lot of sandy sediment clouding up its body. Two fingers of fluffy, bubbly white head are situated atop, gradually falling off over the next five minutes; multiple rings of lovely lace are deposited as it recedes. A creamy collar and thin cap are the eventual survivors. Weak coffee on the nose, with hints of doughy, bready malts, vanilla, and lightly caramelized malts. Nothing stout-like to report here.
It's inoffensive. Doughy, bready malt flavours form the backdrop, with hints of honey and caramelized sugars adding significant sweetness. Exceptionally weak coffee flavours come through by mid-sip, with hints of vanilla and sugar cookie; sweet finish with a malty aftertaste that lingers. Medium in body, with average carbonation and a slick, smooth mouthfeel. Finishing one tallboy is doable, if not an outright chore.
Final Grade: 3.4, a B-. For posterity's sake, I am going to quote the ingredients list for Creemore's White Stout: "Beer, Decaffeinated Coffee, Caramel, Flavours." I don't know about you, but reading that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Caramel is a lame way to add colour/flavour to a beer, and why on earth would they opt for decaf? And don't even get me started on "flavours". Even if I put all of that aside, there is still almost nothing stout-like about this beer. Probably my least-favourite Creemore brew to date - however, by my count this is their first 'miss' in like 20 years. Given my fondness for this brewery, I might give this another chance.
