Creemore Light is a copper-coloured light lager that pays homage to our rich brewing history while ushering in a new era of Creemore: the Lighter Side of Creemore.

Featuring a light floral hop bouquet balanced by refreshing malt notes. A light bodied amber lager made with just a touch of maltiness and a subtle but complex European hop character. 18 IBU

473 mL can from TBS; coded Nov 26 2024 and served slightly chilled. I've always loved Creemore's Premium Lager - it was literally one of the first craft beers I ever sampled, back around 2006 (they were bought out by Molson in 2005, which led to wider distribution). Let's see if this brand new light version is any good.

Pours a crystal clear golden-amber colour, sporting half a finger of tight, foamy, bone white head that disintegrates within ninety seconds or so. A thin collar and filmy cap linger on the surface, with stringy swaths of lace generated after each sip - looks great so far. Light aromas of toasted bread, grains and caramel - similar to the original, the nose is understated yet wholesome.

Stylistically, it drinks like a very light amber lager - practically speaking, that means it's much more flavourful than your average light lager, macro or otherwise. I'm getting bready malts and graininess, with notes of toast and lightly caramelized sugars; just a hint of grassy, earthy hops on the back end, receding into a lightly malty finish. Dry aftertaste with a bit of a club soda feel. Light in body, with potent carbonation that prickles and prods the palate during each sip; feels crisp and goes down easily, but I feel like bloat might become a factor after a few servings.

Final Grade: 3.9, an impressive B+. I mean, it's clearly not as flavourful as their premium lager, but that's not a fair comparison, is it? Despite showing some amber lager characteristics, this is still a light lager - and when scrutinized through that lens specifically, Creemore's Light Lager holds up extremely well. Arguably one of the best light lagers I've ever reviewed, and something I could see myself knocking back one after another on a midsummer weekend. Yeah, I'd prefer the original article, but this lager still has its time and place - it's worth a look if your New Years' resolution involved cutting some calories.
