16oz can dated 09/06/23 and poured into a pint glass shows a light denying deep bottomless black body. Wisps of cocoa powder colored bubbles fail to coalesce and the glass remains clean after copious artistic lacing legs it back to the body.
Dark roasted malt aroma leads chocolate and booze notes and the flavor matches. Warmth brings bourbon barrel depth including molasses, caramel, and oak.
Mouthfeel is thick and not quite creamy. A slight grit prevents real smoothness.
Overall a solid example of a barrel aged stout.

12 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 10/24/22, had 9/11/23.
Pours near black and opaque, thick looking, with no head and some oily, speckled cling. Aromas of roasted malt, oak, brown sugar, raisins, bourbon when warmed, some chocolate and molasses, light leather and tobacco. Flavors of bourbon, roasted malt, oak, prunes, molasses, raisins, some chocolate and brown sugar, light leather and tobacco. Smooth, a solid full body, appropriately carbonated.
Another really good year for this. Heavily roasted, a wide array of terrific and expressive aromas and flavors, great barrels. A really enjoyable sipper.

12oz can poured into Rastal Lawrence stemless glass.
canned on 10/24/22.
Appearance: black bodied stout with a thick cap of creamy medium brown head like the crema on a well made espresso. The head has good staying power. There is some lacing that sticks to the glass. Booze legs present as well.
Smell: dark chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, oak, smoke, and umami.
Taste: Huge dark chocolate. Leathery. Big oak barrel. Sweet and smooth bourbon with a bakers cocoa finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied stout with low and adequate carbonation levels. Nice thickness here. It's old school and not pastry thick. Smooth and not boozy at all.
Overall: This reminds me a lot of Brickstone dark secret or a "dark chocolate" version of bourbon county stout. Either way...I have heard nothing but good things from the barrel program at Cruz Blanca. Excited that I finally have gotten my hands on something from them. This is a really great barrel aged stout.
