a well enough made beer, but this is not the type of saison i really prefer, and it ended up being my least favorite of the three beers we had in here. its too clean and belgiany on the yeast, some of that fruity ester business, along with a little of the white wine french saison type, fermented plenty warm to be flavorful, but really not earth, rustic, or funky at all, and so despite being yeast driven, its kind of boring in that regard. its interesting, because usually if thats the case, the grain bill is also kind of lackluster, but in this case, the malt base is rich and layered, wheaty and maybe some oats, tons of body and protein it feels like, and it does have a toasted element, earthy and hearty and pretty old school. i wish for more from the yeast now, but the flavor of the grain is excellent and i like the texture a lot. a brett pitch would set this off, but even a cooler fermentation would help. this is fine beer, likely appealing to those who like their saisons on the belgian yeasty side, but it didnt quite get me there personally...
