still a flavorful and drinkable beer, but not my favorite on our visit here. presented as a saison with ginger and blood orange, its almost too subtle. the yeast is more belgian than saison, no rustic funky farmy elements to this at all, its clean and estery and classically belgian without a real saison yeast complexion at all. the ginger and the orange are real subdued here, not as happening as i thought they would be. a little of the fresh ginger spice in the nose and in the finish, a generic citrusy sweet vibe from the orange but little else. all of the adjuncts in the oval beers were in the background, but the beer in the foreground doesnt highlight them as well as some of the other flavored beers in here, and i think it ends up a little malty and sweet for the style, and a little bland on the yeast. it also lacks the carbonation i look for in a saison. i like the freshness of the ginger, i just want more of it. neat to see something a little different for a summer seasonal, but this could use a little roughing up to make it more interesting as a saison in my opinion...
