3/3/26 - (Dovetail Brewery) (Chicago, Illinois) Draft Notes: 13.5 oz draft pour (0.4 liters) into a narrow stance glass at the Brewery for $8.75 plus tax. 3.8% ABV, 8 IBU, 4-6 EBC, CO2 5.1 g/L. A historic smoked sour wheat-and-barley beer from Central Germany, Lichtenhainer sits at the crossroads of Berliner Weisse and Rauchbier—bright, gently tart, and delicately smoky.
Appearance: 0.4 liter pour into a strange glass, yielding an unfiltered honey colored bronze base, no carbonation after initial pour, egg white head lingers a few minutes before leaving a thin but creamy cover over the base, primarily around the rim. 3.75
Aroma: Wheat and lemon, like a hefe with a lemon wedge, or three. Medium strength, a bit higher in enjoyment. 3.75
Taste: Tart lemon, a bit like a wide ale with a bit of funkiness. Somewhat rad let like as well. First time with this style, so that’s what I’m going with. It’s nice. 3.5
Mouthfeel: Gentle to lightly prickly carbonation, sweet overall with little to contain it. Drinks a little stronger than the abv, perhaps 5.0%. Getting lemon 7up vibes through the finish as I settle in. 3.5
Overall: This is my first go at the style, and not sure I’d get again unless out on a warm Summer day. Thinkits likely a good attempt, perhaps I’ll come around to one or two more down the road to compare. Glad I tried. 3.5

Pale yellow gold, good clarity, thin head.
Aroma is strong sulfur at first, becoming lemony and wheaty over time.
Taste is tart, lemony and wheaty. Light minerality and trace smoke.
Very light bodied and easy drinking.
