Lichtenhainer
Learn more about the Lichtenhainer style of beer.
Lichtenhainer is a historically light, pale wheat beer from the Thüringen region of Germany, celebrated for its unique balance of lightly smoked malts and subdued sourness from Lactobacillus (lactic acid) fermentation. Notably, it’s less sour (tart) than a Berliner Weisse or Gose and contains no additional adjuncts. The beer typically presents a deep yellow to light gold color with a light, effervescent mouthfeel, often exhibiting a slight haze due to its wheat and yeast content. Noble hops are used sparingly, enhancing the flavor profile without overpowering the delicate balance. Its extremely low bitterness allows the smoke and acidity to harmoniously drive the flavor, with wheat playing a supporting role.
