The pour is golden yellow. The taste is sour followed by subtle smoke. Overall, this was an interesting sour beer but kind of pricey. Cheers! B

Poured from 500mL bottle into a dimpled mug.
Appearance: shimmery silvery-gold hue with a thick head of frothy ivory foam. Admittedly, I gave it a nice vigorous pour.
Smell: an interesting combination of sweetish candylike sourness, a dash of funk, and a little bit of smokiness. Once you get past the “is that burning tires?” thing that comes with a lot of rauchbiers, it’s quite good.
Taste: quite a bit more sour right up front that I was guessing from the aroma, but this fades relatively quickly into a light and refreshing wheatiness. The smokiness is there all throughout, but shows itself most in the aftertaste. My experience with lichtenhainers is limited, but their oddness appeals to me, as does this beer.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I’m really enjoying this beer. A bit of tartness, but the flavor profile is sufficiently complex to keep me coming back. Additionally, the low ABV makes this a lovely quaffer. Good stuff!

I find it imprecise to rate a beer whose style I've only had two of... and can't remember either without looking up my review. Nonetheless, this regional style is kept alive for the Polish community over here and venturesome consumers like us.
While not what I expected, Lichtenhainer is refreshing and worth having again. Lichtenhainer Looks appealing with a huge foam, but dissipates quickly. Smells of all wheat, a hefty dollop of lemon and slight smoke. Taste follows closely with the lemon making me tart. Once the bubbles go away, the brew's subtleties emerge. Finishes pretty dry.
This is only my second from Ritterguts. Their classic goes I've probably not had more than two times as I shy from the style, particularly in its most basic form. But I did visit their website, newly updated with the history of the brewery and of the gose. It is all impressive. And I even found the English button which makes me like their specialty more than I actually do. Prost !

My first beer from this style, quite enjoyable!! I bought a 500 ml bottle on a shot trip to New York at Half Time distributors in Mamaroneck NY. Poured into a "Budweiser Select" pilsner glass, this beer featured a huge highly carbonated white head and a clear (to start with) gold color). Head retention was good. there wee a few bands and many small patches of foamy lacing on the glass. The color gradually changed from clear to hazy as I drank. Probably didn't swirl the bottle to get the sediment moving at first. Aroma and taste included a lemony maltiness, some sourness and smoke. The smoke was more pronounced up front. I even noticed a touch of "smoked meat" which I enjoyed at a much stronger level with Alaskan Smoked Porter!!! The smokiness became less apparent as I drank it, but the slightly sour aspect stood up throughout. Mouthfeel was light and crisp. The carbonation, smoky flavor and sourness made this "bigger" than the 4.3% .abv would suggest. I hope some American brewers start brewing in this style!!!!

Pours a near clear golden yellow, bit 3" fluffy head, good retention and lacing. Nose is dough, salt, lemon. Taste follows with very bright, mildly sour lemon, with equal parts bread dough and salt. No qualities of barrel or smoke, however. Mouthfeel is very crisp and clean. Hard to rate this unfamiliar style, but a very refreshing beer.

Pale pastel gold, foggy with a huge dollop of lasting foam, and intricate webs of delicate lacing. Looks amazing.
Aroma is wheaty and lemony with a light hint of smoke. Pleasant and enjoyable.
Lemony tart with a soft feel, faint smoke, crisp carb and dry finish. Taste is more assertive as it warms and the carb ebbs away somewhat.
Overall this was fun to try. Different strokes for different folks I guess, it’s not all that strange.

500 ml bottle, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.3%. Pale golden colour, large white head. Wheaty aroma, hints of fart and smoke. Fizzy mouthfeel. Medium sour flavour, notes of lactic acid and lightly smoked wheat malts, also some fruity notes reminiscent of yellow plums. Low bitterness. Not bad, not great, historically interesting - but there is probably a reason that the Lichtenhainer beer style died out.
