Double dry-hopped IPAs might be all the rage with the kids these days, but our brewers have a soft spot in their hearts for The Real DDH—a double decocted Helles. We took everything there is to love about a traditional Munich Helles and double decocted it to enhance the malt-forward style characteristic of this beer. Weyermann Barke Pilsner and Vienna malt, Hallertau Mittlefruh and Spalter Select hops come together to create a light, refreshing beer that doesn’t skimp on flavor or complexity. This one’s for all you beer nerds out there!

Bought a Humble Sea mixed 4-pack when I saw it available at Blind Lady Ale House. I love that BLAH is doing these lately as I’m on their website every day. Helles Lagers are quickly becoming one of my favorite styles and was looking forward to having something different than haze from Humble Sea. Poured a clear medium pale color with four fingers of rocky-to-frothy white head. Lots of fast-moving bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass, kind of looking like a snow globe. World-class uneven foamy lacing. World-class foamy retention. (Sight - 4.50)

Smelled sourdough bread, cereal, hay, grass, corn, earthy pilsner malt, black pepper, floral and hints of honey. Just as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.25)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose, but still excellent. In order got sourdough bread, cereal, hay, grass, black pepper, Noble hops, earthy pilsner malt, corn, floral and hints of honey. (Taste - 4.25)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Long, spicy, dry finish. (Feel - 4.50)

Damn. This was tasty. Apparently Humble Sea can do everything right. Excellent. (Overall - 4.25)

First substantive review of this beer on BA. Amazing DDB got bounced and the shit that sticks around.

Pours a beautiful dark golden yellow that is the most familiar of all beer colors. 3/4" white head and amazing clarity, that is now 2 straight lagers that look gangster AF from this small brewery in an expensive location. The aroma hits the bready lager yeast and barley notes. There is a lighter hop presence than the "italian pilsner" but they smell like the sameish hops, just in a lesser quantity.

Taste brings the malty nuance of specialty malt in a minimalistic package device. Juxtaposed breadiness meets crisp lagery aspects. Hopping almost inconsequential on this one. Which is a way of saying it is done right since they aren't trying to hype hop this one. Its a good enough beer in a style that few get excited about. Pops dug it.

True story: I don't know what decocting is, sounds like something transish.

Nothing special here. Peeps been talking about these Humble Sea dudes and Raul been listening. But instead of Beatles vibes, Raul’s getting your little brother’s band who smokes too much shwag. It’s aite, but so is not being constipated.

Peace.
