Glass: Pure Project 14-oz. Teku glass
Price: $22.00 for a mixed 4-pack
From: Blind Lady Ale House in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: Jan. 21, 2021
Consumed: Jan. 29, 2021
Misc.: Canned on Jan. 7, 2021
Bought a Humble Sea mixed 4-pack when I saw it available at Blind Lady Ale House. I love that BLAH is doing these lately as I’m on their website every day. Untappd description was “DDH Hop-Fused West Coast DIPA double dry-hopped and fused with Strata, Cashmere & Mosaic. This beer is soooooo good ? the perfect balance of fresh fruit with citrusy undertones. Think a crispy, simple malt bill with some of our favorite hops that complement West Coast styles beautifully?”
Poured a pale-to-medium yellow clear color with six fingers of rocky white head. Could see some bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Almost perfect spotty foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smelled Strata, grapefruit, grass, passion fruit, strawberry, lime, lemon, herbal, Mosaic, floral, rose blossom, mango mixed berry and pine. Even better from the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted about as good as the nose. Big Strata, bitter grapefruit rind, grass, floral, passion fruit, strawberry, Mosaic, rose blossom, mixed berry, mango, pine, lime, lemon and herbal. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Just an excellent West Coast DIPA. (Overall - 4.25)

An early 2021 pickup of two cans. This is the first review of this beer on BA. Looks like the second can was consumed out on the river in early March.
Pours a golden color, not quite in the clarity realm, but closer to that than the hazy or even cloudy shadow realm. Closer to being very nice than very evil in the west coast ipa sense. Good hop aroma, Mosaic and Strata doing the heavy lifting, a candied amount of tropical fruit, candied orange and berries.
Taste continues to rock some nice hopping with a malt body that is classic west coast minimalism. Its drier than it looks. Doesn't shy away from bitterness but it isn't a one trick bitter pony, there's plenty of hoppy notes that run the spectrum here. Mouth feel does that great job at making almost 9% abv not have much sting. It wasn't like this two decades ago, when you drank 8.7%, you tasted it!
So here's the deal with Humble Sea: everything they make is good, but they're in one of the most expensive areas in the world, and so paying $5-6 per can of beer won't ever make them a regular beer in my book. But they are good.
