Our Pre-Prohibition American Lager has its own complex brew day. It starts with parallel mashes that are eventually united - one with locally malted barley from Valley Malt and another cereal mash with corn grits from a unique heirloom variety (also from Valley Malt). The soul of this beer is equal parts grain and hops; for the latter we used whole leaf Mt. Hood and Vermont-grown Crystal and Willamette followed by a light dry hop addition of VT Cascade. Built for summer time refreshment, we’re excited to have Sway in both 12 and 16 ounce formats and look forward to hearing which folks enjoy most.

Sampling a chilled 12 oz can poured into my .5L dimple mug. Canned on 8/27/2025. Picked up at the brewery about a month ago, so within 2 months of canning. Should be totally fine tonight.
The beer pours into my glass a bright clear gold color with frothy bleached white head of about 2 cm. This foam is fading rapidly leaving some windowpane lattice on my glass.
Aroma is a little grainy malt and a good dose of grassy and black tea hop notes. No abv hints on the nose.
First sip reveals a light body with smooth to slightly watery texture. FIne tingly carbonation gently rolls across my palate.
The beer drinks very easy on the physical traits.
Flavor is similar to the nose advertisements. I get some biscuity and cereal malt notes with a decent bit of grassy hops and some tea bite finish. Also dry on the finish which encourages me to take another sip.
Very clean and drinkable lager that has a solid hop profile and balanced malt notes to keep the beer interesting. Glad I picked up a few of these cans.

On tap at Vermont Brewers festival. 3 oz sample pour. This is another one of the non hoppy beers that stood out. Absolutely exceptional for an American Lager. Drinks smooth with a great malt hop balance. Loving the malt profile in this one.

Purchased at the source today cold and kept cold until served. Poured to a Nonic glass from a 12oz can stamped “CANNED ON 6/11/25”.
The body is a very light gold and almost, but not quite clear. A three-finger head sits after the pour and fades over a few minutes to a glass-hugging ring. Even so it laces moderately on tilts, but falls rather quickly.
The aroma is of spicy straw with a nice malt background.
The taste is similar, spicy, hoppy straw and malt finish. The hop sense is the best part.
The mouthfeel is light and slightly oily. At 4.7% the alcohol is unnoticed.
An excellent lager. The 12oz can format I had feels like a shot glass. This beer is very slamable.

Clear light yellow color with a big rocky white cap that quickly dissipates.
Aroma of clean, sweet grain and tangerine fruit sprinkled with lemon zest. There are hops in there but the scent is well covered up.
Taste on entry is full, rich grain and surprisingly hoppy. Bittering hops of some variety that announce their presence with a trumpet blast yet are not overpowering in any way rather melding effortlessly with the grain. I actually get more hops in the aftertaste than in scent or flavor but hop presence does not rise above the role of a support player.
Medium texture with balancing carbonation that is a touch more than it needs.
Overall this is an outstanding American Lager.

Pours a crystal clear light straw color. Huge pillowy white head slowly but steadily collapses until just a thin, maybe quarter inch, layer of sudsy foam remains.
Aroma is really interesting because its immediately noticeable for its strong citrusy hop aroma. There are some light grassy notes, but I also get an unmistakable light orange and citrus note. Some light grainy notes come through underneath. the hop aroma certainly sets it apart from other beers in the style.
Taste is really light and crips with some citrusy hops on a very light palate of grainy malts. Up front the flavor is notes of mandarin orange and light lemon grass giving way to almost nothing before the light grainy malts peep through towards the back end. Finish is grassy and pretty short.
Feel is light, crisp, clean and easy drinking. Bright, vibrant carbonation with a semi-dry finish.
Overall its a really nice American lager - the hops used in this give off a charade of having some orange in it, but its really nicely done.

This one pours a clear and very pretty golden yellow color, with a small foamy head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like corn bitterness, slightly sweet grain, grassy hops, and orange zest.
This is so wonderful, and really well done. The corn maltiness adds some crisp sweetness, and the hop character is just about spot on - zestily citrusy, grassy, and slightly spicy, with a minerally and crisp finish.
This is very light bodied, and extremely crisp, with a great drinkability.
It's hard for me to dislike something like this.

16oz. can served in a pilsner glass. Pours a lovely straw gold with a tight, one inch, bright white head that slowly collapses in on itself. Copious tiny bubbles are present effervescing in-solution. Nose expresses hints of lemon, grass and corn. Taste consistent with nose; however, there's also some crackery notes, as well as an earthy/herbal noble hops bitterness towards the back that lightly lingers between quaffs. Mouthfeel is light in body with a pleasant carbonation and a semi-dry/crisp finish. Overall, a solid example of the style. I imagine this would be quite nice on a hot day.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a pint glass.
Pours a clear golden straw color with a finger of bright white head. The head leaves some sticky cobwebs of lace before settling into a thin sheet.
The aroma brings notes of bread, corn, and spicy hops. There's some light citrus as well.
The flavor is quite citrusy up front, followed by a wave of grains, dough and sweet corn.
The feel is light bodied with good carbonation. Very crisp and highly drinkable.
Overall, this is a good American lager. Definitely a bit more hoppy and earthy than the typical AAL, but the drinkability is still there.

On tap at Fox Farm. Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with an inch of think head. Lots of lacing. Nice nose of slightly sweet cereal, herbal and floral hops and honey. The taste is Corn Flakes with some grapefruit and floral hop notes. It’s almost like a breakfast in a beer. Corn flakes, light honey and slight citrus finish. Crisp with a light body and lots of carbonation. Incredibly drinkable with very little alcohol presence.
