Picked up a mixed 4 pack from The Brew Shop as it came with one of their birthday mixed packs. Excited to try this because Greg Engert cited Cushwa makes the "very best hazies" in the area. I haven't had any Cushwa so I had to open this one first.
L: Pours an ugly murky yellowish brownish hue. Off white head. Great retention.
S: Right off the bat, the aroma of mango and pineapple jumps out at me.
T/F: Despite the aroma, it is at first much more earthy and spicy than expected. Grapefruit peel quickly elapses into black pepper, spruce tips, and raw hop character. As I sip this more, I realize that this is the hops held in suspension. It is not super burny - more that vegetal hop character than anything - but it's not not burny. It's mild, the burn. I was hopeful for this one because of the aromatics, but damn, this is a massive let down.
O: I'm sorry but this doesn't have a lot of redeeming qualities. I'll try other Cushwa beers, as I imagine that this isn't representative of their work. This batch is not good though.
PS: This batch is listed at 8% so I don't know if they brewed a different beer with the same name.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
