We were encouraged to be creative with the recipe and we ended up with an adjunct-free intensely roast forward old school Imperial Stout. Bold flavors of bittersweet chocolate, bakers cocoa, dark roast espresso, slightly burnt toast, black licorice, and dark dried fruit. Medium-full bodied with a long lasting, dry, and roasted finish.

Grabbed a can of this with a host of some other stuff while picking up my Triple Vanilla Hazelnut Macaroon bottle. This would be my first Black Is Beautiful beer. Their website description called this, “We are honored to stand with our brewing community in the participation of Weathered Souls Brewing collaboration initiative: BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL, Imperial Stout. We have joined forces to raise voices, spread equality, & promote inclusion within our beer community and beyond. This amazing brewery collaboration is a united effort to bring awareness to the injustices that people of color face daily. Medium-full bodied with a long lasting, dry, and roasted finish.” Sounded delicious.

Poured a dark brown-to-very dark color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki tan head. Pretty calm underneath the head with just a few bubbles coming up from the sides of the glass. Noticed a lot of heaviness lingering on the can. Squeezed some of the sediment out into the glass, but didn’t get even half of it. Glass felt super heavy. Outstanding spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled roasty malts, bug spray, burnt black coffee, bitter baker’s chocolate, dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee malts, black licorice, semi-char wood and burnt toast. Much of the same from the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted better than the nose. Initially reminded me more of a Russian Imperial Stout than an American Double / Imperial Stout. Got dark roasted espresso, bitter baker’s chocolate, roasty malts, dark chocolate, semi-char wood, burnt toast, black licorice, sticky dark milk chocolate, hints of caramel and vanilla, and dark fruit. Did not taste 10 pct. (Taste - 4.25)

Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.50)

This was an excellent beer. Wondering if all the Black Is Beautiful beers are this good. (Overall - 4.25)
