What is going on here?? 100% Ekuanot hopped DDH West Coast IPA with Ekuanot Incognito, Ekuanot Cryo, and more Ekuanot?? What the ek??? Fruity citrus and herbaceously dank aromas with layers of black currants, fresh pine, and grapefruit zest on the palate. Assertively bitter and finishes dry, but clean.

Snuck over to North Park to grab a mixed 4-pack of new releases from the past couple weeks. Their website called this “What is going on here?? 100% Ekuanot hopped DDH West Coast IPA with Ekuanot Incognito, Ekuanot Cryo, and more Ekuanot?? What the ek??? Poured a light amber clear color with two fingers of frothy off-white head. Could see some bubbles coming up from the bottom and sides of the glass at different speeds. Excellent layered lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled Ekuanot, green pepper, herbal, pine, jalapeno, lime, grapefruit zest, citrus, green apple skin, papaya and onion. Got a little bet each sniff. A little better out of the can, kind of reminding me of a Sprite. (Smell - 3.75)

Tasted Ekuanot, green pepper, pine, jalapeno, herbal, lime, Sprite, citrus, grapefruit zest, green apple skin, papaya, onion, black currants, hints of black licorice, tea and menthol. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Spicy, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Was back and forth on this overall, but for a West Coast IPA it was very good. (Overall - 3.75)

Not quite perfectly clear, but close, with a hue the color of burnished gold. Modest head production; decent retention; nice lacing.

Nose is dank and pungently sweet, with fruit tones centered on tropical, along with hints of grapefruit and lemon.

Bitter, moderately dank, and very herbal on the palate. Roughly equal blend of citrus and tropical fruit. Dank and resinous second half; bitter. There's an almost dirty element to the front two thirds, as though you're chewing on unwashed hop cones.

Bitter, slightly dry, with hop oils lingering.

Overall, outstanding. A really interesting take on an old school WCIPA with new school hops and techniques. The specific varietal isn't my favorite, but if you're looking for something that really features Ekuanot, this is your beer!
