Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England Double / Imperial IPA
Glass: North Park 16.5-oz. Munique glass
Price: $5.69
From: Windmill Farms in Del Cerro (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: May 12, 2021
Consumed: May 22, 2021
Misc.: Canned on May 4, 2021
Spent way too much on a recent trip to Windmill Farms but had to grab one of these because North Park. Their website called this “When we first learned about Phantasm, an experimental beer ingredient derived from powdered freeze-dried Marlborough, New Zealand grown Sauvignon Blanc grapes, we couldn't wait to get our hands on some and see what thiol wizardry this stuff could deliver. We are so stoked on the results! Between the huge passion fruit, guava, apricot, bright tangerine, gooseberry, and its sauvignon blanc grapey finish, this is just one incredibly complex, delicious, and juicy Double IPA!” Mentioned hops were Citra, Galaxy and Nelson.
Poured a light golden hazy color with 1-to-2 fingers of fizzy off-white head, which dissipated rather quickly. Could see some bubbles coming up along the sides and bottom of the glass. Decent watery lacing. Bad retention. (Sight - 3.25)
Smelled all three hops right away, in order Nelson, Citra and Galaxy. Also gooseberry, white grape, passion fruit, grapefruit, tangerine, guava, mango and nectarine. Grew on me each sniff. Just as good from the can. (Smell - 4.25)
Tasted about as good as the nose. In order got Nelson, Citra, Galaxy, gooseberry, white grape, passion fruit, grapefruit, tangerine, guava, mango, nectarine, apricot and pineapple. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.50)
Another great hazy from North Park. Was digging that Phantasm ingredient though. (Overall - 4.25)
