An American mild ale brewed with Horizon hops. The crisp, bitter finish is helped up by a balanced malt body. Served in a nice, tall glass.

Poured from a pint can, the body is a clear yellow with a small fluffy white head that quickly recedes. No lacing.

Aroma has notes of citrus/lemon and cracker.

Taste follows nose with a malty cracker flavor up front.. The citrus is present but less than in aroma. The flavor is light but refreshing. Crisp and pleasantly but mildly hoppy.

Mouthfeel is light and carbonation mild.

I've seen reviews calling this beer an American light lager or a blonde ale but to me it most strongly resembles a German Helles lager. Hopped with Hallertau Mittelfruh, this lager is bright, clear gold with a frothy, lacing white cap. Flavor start out mild--grass, grain with a touch of sweetness. The beer decidedly goes the Helles route in the finish, with a pronounced and durable cracker, grain and malt run out that last well after your sip. Pardon me for singing the praises of Shut The Hell Up.

tasty modern lager here courtesy of my homie, not really a helles as the name seems to imply, at least not a tradtiional one, neat to get to drink some of the exotic ones from these guys, lesser known anyway, and this is bright and tight with a clean and juicy hop profile but still kind of old worldy too, real light in body, fizzy, and easy to drink without feeling dumbed or watered down in the least, this hits. slight european character to the grain, maybe a belgian pils malt or something, clean without being basic or too simple, good water chemistry is evident, and some grassy noble character to the hops but also a slightly sweet lemon meringue thing, wispy and herbal and verdant and peppy. the flavor is brisk and pretty fast, the hops start early and ramp up, the lightest coconut thing before hay and straw and dried flowers, less citrus than i smell in it, but some on the back end, middle of the road bitterness, pils-esque. carbonation rushes in this, carries the obvious freshness to the fore, and i like the back end bite. crackery grain, minerals, and green grape from the fridge, love the cleanness throughout. nothing earth shattering here, but a very well made beer, a less is more kind of thing, refreshing and drinkable, thanks to my boy for the hookup, great lager! my wife loved it too...

On cask at The Alchemist on 6/11/11.

A - Very pale, cloudy golden liquid with a dense, creamy bright white dollop of foam on top that retained well and deposited thick swatches of lacing down the sides of the glass.

S - Dank, fresh hops reeking of citrus fruit and pine. Wow! This sucker packs a mean hoppy nose! Sweet malt balances the fresh hop character nicely.

T - This is one juicy-ass, dank hop firecracker (not a bomb, because it's only 3.7%)! Shut the Hell Up! is brimming with bold hop character, but there is no alcohol presence whatsoever. Finishes with a balance of sweet and toasted grainy malt amid all of that juicy hop goodness.

M - Really light bodied but quite creamy, giving the mouthfeel an exceptionally smooth texture. Finishes with mild bitterness that lingers for a little while on the palate.

D - There should be a picture of this beer in the dictionary next to the entry for "Session Beer". A 3.7% ABV ale? Simcoe hops? Um, yeah. On cask? HELL yeah!

A- Light straw body with a small white head. Webs of thin lace stick down the glass.

S- Simcoe hops lend nice peach, citrus and a tiny bit of floral. Yeast bread and light cereal malt behind Simcoe.

T- Great encapsulation of Simcoe fruit hop flavors over a tiny malt profile. Yeast lends nice bread flavors to finish.

MF- Uber light body with crisp carbonation. Small bitterness on the palate.

Pretty much what I aim for with homebrew. Great light beer with tons of juicy hop flavor.

Nice cloudy straw color with a long lasting creamy white head.

Nice hop fragrance with a hint of citrus.

It tastes just like it smells, a great clean dry blend of hoppy grapefruit & pine.

This is the way a session brew should be, tons of great flavor, very drinkable & low abv.

From 08/28/10 notes. Had on tap at the Alchemist in Vermont.

a - Pours a murky golden color with light carbonation and no real head.

s - Smells of citrus and fruit malts. Also some bready and caramel malts, and a hint of spice.

t - Tastes of slightly bitter citrus hops, fruity malts, wheat, and bready malts.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

d - An ok blonde ale, but nothing special. nothing really stood out about this beer and given the other great beers on the menu, I'd probably pass again on this one.

On tap poured into a pint glass.

Pours a odd super hazy cloudy light pale yellow with a very thin white head. Light fine lacing all around. Nose is flat and malty but not sweet, a bit musty.

Taste is super dry, quite bitter give the low ibus and a bit malty. It's got that signature alchemist taste that's really good. Overall pretty decent drink very sessionable.

On tap at the brewpub. Mild ale with Simcoe? Yes please!

Pours a ridiculously light straw yellow, a bit hazy, very thick and chunky white head forms and settles down to a huge layer dropping a ton of lacing all over the glass, really nice.

Smell is great, tons of resinous hoppy pine, grapefruit, some dankness, light honey and caramel sweetness, malty in the middle, floral, very big and hoppy, but not overdone.

Taste is similar, a bit of lemony twang up front, lightly spicy, big pine, resin, very hoppy, honey, caramel, light biscuit, grapefruit, weed, very well balanced.

Mouthfeel is light bodied with low to medium carbonation, insanely drinkable. Wow, a great hoppy mild and one of the lightest colours beers I've ever seen.

sampled on tap at the brewpub may 31/2010. billed as an "american mild ale" and listed at 3.7% and 30 IBU.

pours very pale yellow with a big fine white head. the head drops slowly with a sheet of lace the whole way down the glass.

aroma is great. grapefruit and resiny pine. a bit powdery. faint orange and tangerine. white bread and cracker. bit of biscuit. hint of alcohol. this one is clearly all about the hops.

taste is good. bit of resiny pine and grapefruit, but the bitterness is never overwhelming. medium-low bitterness level. tons of hop flavour. grapefruit, orange, tangerine, pine. light white bread and cracker. hint of alcohol. this one is just jammed full of juicy fresh hops.

mouthfeel is great. just under medium body. slightly below medium carbonation level.

drinkability is great. excellent balance. tons of flavour and depth in a great session ale. i wish i could take this one home!
