Not much to look at, but a good enough marriage of beer, orange, and ginger. Nose dominated by orange, but appetizing spiciness out of the ginger. A little more beery than a lot of over-juiced radlers, but that works just fine. Flavourful and appetizing.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 8 2019 and served barely chilled.

Pours a turbid, muddy golden-yellow colour, initially topped with nearly an inch of soapy, bubbly white head that fizzles off within the next sixty seconds or so. A thin collar is all that remains afterwards; no lace, no cap. Doesn't look much different from their standard radler. I'm getting mostly orange and lime juice on the nose, with hints of lemon zest tartness, ginger spiciness and kind of a mild, fruity sugar-sweetness in the background, probably from the apple juice.

Not a bad little radler - I enjoy the flavours, generally speaking, but there's a few things that do bug me (more on that later). It tastes of orange right off the bat, with minor contributions of lemon and grapefruit, all of which leads into a fruit juicy tail end that includes hints of ginger spice, lemon and limeade. My main gripe is with its mouthfeel, which is abnormally full for a radler - a style I normally associate with being light-bodied and spritzy, yet this one feels medium in body (if not heftier), and its carbonation levels are unfortunately fairly low, imparting only a gentle bite to help cut through. I finished my glass easily enough, but it's not something I'd want to drink all afternoon.

Final Grade: 3.46, a B-. Winter Radler ain't bad, but I had almost the exact same complaint about their summer radler - i.e. that the mouthfeel was odd. Both beers also include a thickening agent (locust bean gum) in the ingredients. I have no idea: maybe that stuff is required for stabilization purposes or something, but my gut instinct is that it's also the reason I'm lukewarm on most of these Ace Hill radlers. If I'm going to be drinking a radler, even in the winter, I want something light, refreshing and juicy. This one's juicy, but it's also kind of slick and flabby on the tongue, and 1 out of 3 ain't good enough to guarantee another turn at the plate... unless you're a professional baseball player.
