Soda type head, lots of bubbles, but very short-lived. No lace, no ring, nuthin'. Opaque golden yellow. Distinctly lemony nose with cayenne clearly lurking in the background. Sharp mouthfeel from lemon and pepper both. Aggressive lemon up front with cayenne hot on its heels. Lingering pepper. This has got an interesting flavour profile. Not super beery as a radler, but quite distinctive. Enjoyable if you enjoy a little heat. An interesting radler.

473 mL can from the LCBO; one of four different radlers in an Ace Hill mixed pack. Dated May 16 2020 and served barely chilled.

Pours muddy and turbid with a pale yellow colour, topped with two fingers of fizzy, sparkling white head that recedes within ninety seconds. A soapy collar and filmy, thin cap are the only remnants; not a speck of lace to be seen anywhere. It smells mostly of tart lemon juice, with subtle notes of grainy pale malt, lemonade and an earthy, vaguely herbal note that I can only attribute to the cayenne pepper extract.

I actually like this more than I expected to - the lemon juice is most prominent, for sure, but you can also discern lime juice and apple juice sweetness, as well as a touch of grainy pale malts and mild spiciness. The cayenne pepper doesn't become a force until the tail end of the sip, where it builds up momentum and lends a spicy, lingering, low level heat to the lemony-tart aftertaste. Light in body; feels very crisp on the tongue, but it's a little overcarbonated, causing it to froth up in the mouth - a minor distraction, as I still enjoyed this radler quite a bit.

Final Good: 3.78, a B+. I might take their Lime Radler over this one, but Ace Hill's Lemon-Cayenne Radler deserves a close second place, easily beating out their standard radler IMO, as well as their Winter radler. Sometimes a little personality is all it takes to push a beer to the next level. Given that this serving is already six months old (and it wasn't refrigerated for most of that time) I plan to look for a fresher sample in the near future, and possibly update this review if there's any major differences. A unique radler that deserves at least one sampling - pair this one with something spicy, like nachos or tacos with jalapeƱo, for best results.
