Featuring roasted malt aromas of cocoa, caramel and toffee, plus a touch of slightly spicy and nutty characteristics often associated with rye malts, Summit Triple Rye is balanced by a pleasantly clean citrus hop finish and mellow tartness from the yeast profile in the finish. Brewed with three types of rye from three different countries, Summit Triple Rye Pale Ale is unfiltered and combines sweet roasted malt flavors with citrus hops, spice, and a deep-down Minnesota desire to layer flannel and wool.

Seems pretty basic to me. Lacking the true rye flavor but still easily drinkable.

Pours a clear copper with a thick tan head from a moderate pour. Head falls away gradually leaving generous lacing. Aroma is faint, mostly caramel malt. Flavor also a bit weak, the same caramel roasted malt, a hint of rye, and very little hop presence. Feel is on the thin side of medium bodied. Overall a tad disappointing coming from this fine brewery.

Appearance: Clear amber, good head.
Smell: Slight toast aroma, bit of fruit.
Taste: Rye in the middle, a little bit of dark fruit, a bit of citrus in the finish.
Overall: Beer #2 from the ratskeller pack. Liked this one a bit more than the XPA, very balanced and mild flavors throughout. The rye shows up but not as prominently as you'd expect for a beer named "triple rye".

Malty, toffee, mild citrus aroma. Clear amber-ruby color, rising bubbles, with a 3/4 inch thick very slightly tan head, fading slowly with sticky lacing. Substantial body that hangs around on the tongue. Bready, toffee, and malty, as with the aroma, slight citrus in the taste, touch of spice. Subtle rye spice, very subtle. Slightly bitter aftertaste, but the malts carry the load in this beer. This is a nice enjoyable beer, but it's ratings likely suffer from expectations created by the name: "Triple Rye"... "A Little Rye" is what it delivers. Nonetheless, I liked it so I ignored the name and rated the beer as it is. (BTW, this is one case where my method of not completing the review until the 2nd beer results in a different perspective. By the second beer, my expectations were not set by the name.)

A-Deep copper color....minimal head
S-Malty... toffee and caramel.
T-Toffee up front...malty like an ESB with biscuits and toffee....not much of a rye impression which is surprising. Hops lend a light citrus dimension but not real strong at all. The toffee malt carries the flavor.
F-Seems a bit thin...clean...
O-Not bad but where's the rye characteristics? Reminds me of an ESB to be honest. Worth drinking. Not bad at all. Just when you bill something triple rye a person expects a pretty strong rye impression and there is not that.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Date code etched on bottle is '81109E212210'.
Clear, deep amber colored body. Partial finger white head upon the pour, retreats to scattered islands and ring. Leaves behind some random patterns of lacing.
Aroma is faint, with sweeter roasted malts and citrus hops, with a touch of spice.
Taste is fuller than aroma, with sweet roasted malts, and more of a presence (but still minor) of the spicy rye. This is balanced by the earthy and citrus hops. Has a touch of bitterness at the end.
Less than medium mouth feel. Just a minor hint of burn on the tongue. Good carbonation.
Mild drinking amber ale which is very easy to drink, and provides just a mention of the rye spiciness.

Looks and smells very good. But the flavor is too shallow. Needs more malt to give it some backbone. The rye gives a nice spicy flavor but I wish for a lot more. Medium hop presence with citrus and grassy notes. The body also suffers a bit as well. I wanted this to be the best of the Ratskeller pack but was letdown.
