A well-balanced, European-style amber ale.

Our Amber 6.6 ale is the flagship of our Heritage Series brews. Reminiscent of our time as an early nation, we have held true to the big bodied, high ABV ales that were very popular among the hard-working men and women who helped Canada become what it is today.

Taste: Full bodied with a complex malt profile. Velvety and subtle. Notes of rye bread, cherry, and toast, with a warm highland whiskey finish.

IBU: 34

Unearthing an age-old beer recipe

Kingston was once home to four main breweries. At the time, ales higher in alcohol were popular in the local pubs. In fact, we found lots of evidence in the city archives to back this up. Our brewmaster also found procurement notices in old newspapers that led us to conclude that one of those four breweries was making this same style of beer at the time. With this information, we designed our Amber 6.6 recipe to be as authentic and true to its local predecessor as possible.

“Reviving something from the past like this was very alluring. We designed a recipe that we feel is as close to the real deal as any modern brewmaster can get.”
~ Trevor Lehoux, Brewmaster

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My first beer from the Kingston, Ontario brewery.

Taste is smooth not much bitterness at first maybe medium level .
and it feels lighter then 6.6% maybe 5.4%.

2,750th review! 473ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $3.50CDN. Canned December 12, 2023.

Appearance - A bright amber colored brew with good clarity, lots of bubbles and a foamy two finger head with well above average head retention.

Smell - Grain, caramel and some apple skins and orchard fruits. Surprisingly aromatic.

Taste - Lots of grain, hints of cherries. Finishes fairly bitter. Fairly bready like a rye or sourdough but toasted.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied and kind of dry, the carbonation is a bit lacking. Slight bit of warming in the back of the throat.

Overall - Good but hardly exceptional strong amber ale, the one distinguishing point is the cherry quality, it's muted but consistently present throughout the glass, which is a nice little unique point.

From notes from a stay in Ottawa

Appearance: Head disappeared almost immediately but did leave some minor lace, body is a semi-hazy amber with low carbonation.

Smell: Caramel malt with maybe the slightest hint of raspberrry, but it's not very potent. Even after warming this beer needs a bit more impact here.

Taste: Caramel and Toffee malt that turns to a mixture of almond, hazel and brazil nuts with that slight raspberry hint and ends with some muddy hops that are kept well in check.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation is a bit disappointing, and the muddy hops do cling a bit too much, but the transitioning is good and the aftertaste mixed. Doesn't do the worst job of hiding it's higher ABV but you do notice it is a bit higher.

Drinkability: Light of of medium bodied, whose low carbonation ensures it settles down well, although I do wish it was more sweet and less bitter, but completely serviceable.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated 07/08/20 and served at cellar temperature.

Pours crystal clear and orange-amber, capped off with nearly two fingers of foamy, soapy white head that lasts for the better part of five minutes. By that point, it has been reduced to a creamy collar and filmy cap, with a fair bit of messy lacing flung about in the process - it's visually attractive, there's no doubt of that. On the nose I'm getting doughy malts, caramelized sugars and kind of a biscuity, lightly toasted nuttiness. There may be a touch of grassy hops in there, too.

A decently rendered "Canadian-style" amber - i.e. leaning malt-forward, though this one does at least have some contribution from the hops (moreso towards the back end). I'm getting toasted bread, burnt grains and caramel at the forefront, followed up by a woodsy, grassy, vaguely spicy hop note that stays in the mix through to the finish. The sip concludes with a malty-sweet, doughy, biscuity aftertaste that does have a slight warming quality. Medium in body, with mild carbonation that limply agitates the surface of the palate; feels smooth and a little slick on the tongue. Limited drinkability - one should be plenty for most beer geeks.

Final Grade: 3.68, a B grade. Skeleton Park's Amber 6.6 is a serviceable amber ale, combining flavourful caramelized malts with a moderately potent, British-inspired hop bill. It is on the strong side, though 'boozy' is a slight exaggeration IMO... you can tell it's there, but it's not particularly intrusive. I'd say this one's at least worth a try, especially if you like this style, but also if you enjoy British-influenced strong ales. I finished my glass without cause for complaint, but as is the case with most ambers, I doubt I'll be back any time soon.

Can - pours a lightly hazed amber-copper beer in the glass with a 2 finger tight off white cap....aromas are demure with some bredy malts and grassy tones....Flavor is well balanced between chewy toasty bready malts and spicey sharp hop bite....long clean drying finish with a hop bite ant the end...a drinkable sturdy and satisfying amber beer...defies categorization but a decent commercial brew

Pours slightly misty copper colour with a dense creamy off white head. Faint aromas of bread and caramel. Flavour, more focused rye bread, caramel, cherry.

Pours a nice amber/copper color with about two fingers of head. Head breaks quickly leaving an island of foam. Minimal lacing.

Smell is strong caramel malts. Some breadyness there too.

Taste brings the malt to the front, with a nice caramel presence. Light hops come in on the finish.

Feel is medium bodied, with lower than expected carbonation. I don't get any of the booze some others complained about.

A decent enough, if unremarkable beer. I would take it over some, but there are many more I would prefer.

I tried this beer at the Toronto Festival of beer over the weekend. What a find. This beer has beautiful malts well balanced and smooth. This is a mouthy beer, enveloping all the senses. Beginning with a velvety rye bread, a little toasty, bitter sweets fruity notes, then a creamy caramel bourbon finish. By far the best beer experience I had all day. I would highly recommend this beer

A middle of the road brew. Didn't strike me as being too emphatically boozy despite coming in at 6.6. Sweet like a typical amber, hoppier than most. But, in the end, a pretty quiet experience. Drinkable, unremarkable.

Pours reddish amber with a giant eggshell head with great retention. Fruity, berry notes, chocolate malts and boozey astringency in the nose. Harsh rum heat detracts from the chewy, caramelly malt flavors in the taste. Some light grassy hoppiness in the back. Sparse carbonation in the medium mouthfeel. Boozy finish with low bitterness.

Too much alcohol presence for the ABV. Very distracting.
