16oz can at share. Dark, clear brown pour, bubble off-white head.. Super malty aroma and taste. Notes of tobacco, sweetness and plenty of booze. Warming

 

Barley wine-esque. Poured brown. Nice fig taste with a nice smooth boozy finish. Well done very unique beer from the lager powerhouse in Denver. I’ll need to get a few more of these!

No canning date (released on 7/8/20, so presumably canned within a few days of that date); consumed on 12/5/20

Pours a muddy, almost inky maroon-mahogany body capped with a finger of creamy, dark khaki foam; sub-par head retention results in virtually no cap, a paper-thin collar, and temporary webs of lacing spattered around the walls of the glass.

Aroma features a layered toffee/caramel decadence trending toward plummy dark fruit notes and brûléed brown sugar; smoked figs, dates, medicinal cherry, and rich prune compote offer further detail over the middle of the bouquet as robust lager yeast and vague impressions of brown bread and minerality come through on the close.

Taste opens with a brief suggestion of booze, almost immediately giving way to a profile laden with figs, plum, sherried malts, and hints of earthy, semi-sweet raw cacao; jammy prune, dark cherry, and burnt sugar accent past the mid-palate, with a lingering dusting of bakers chocolate and hints of grass through the finish.

Mouthfeel brings a medium-full body and minimal carbonation imparting a delicate spritz drying slightly to a weighty, oily mid-palate; the back end embraces a boozy heat against suggestions of syrupy richness, though finishes surprisingly cleanly with only mild sticky textures through the finish/swallow.

A decadent, high-octane lager with a foundation in the Märzen tradition though decidedly forging its own stylistic path via a richness and depth of flavor in line with the layered equivalent of a barleywine; unabashedly sweet though far from recklessly so, this is a strong lager executed well and true to its own unique form.

 

Good looking dark amber-brown. slight toasted marshmallow head. Roasted caramel on the nose, heady dark bock flavors, maple syrup and date. Smooth, incredibly smooth, but man it wallops you with that 12%. One and done, just how some days ought to be.

 

This one pours a cola brown with slight off white/brownish head. I'm thinking this will be similar to Samichlaus and it's not far off. Aroma of light caramel, raisin, sweet bread, hints of apple. A smooth drinking beer at 12%, heat not up front but at the exhale if you think about it. The raisin and caramel come at a bit more. Perhaps figs? Almost like a quad, but not as deep or bubbly. Easy drinking. Glad I have another to save for winter. Great beer.

L:. Pours a dark brown with hints of red when the light hits it, looks a little cola like, with a small tan head that dissipates almost instantly. And no lacing

S:. Notes of caramel and brown sugar, sweet red wine grapes, notes of dark stone fruit. Smells very inviting.

T:. Notes of caramel and brown sugar, sweet red wine grapes, cherry and notes of dark stone fruit, a light hop but not terribly noticeable.

F:. Medium to large body and very easy drinking for the abv.

O:. Basically a lagered Barleywine and Bierstadt Lagerhaus nailed it.
