I’ve only had 1 beer from The Referend before and was very impressed. This one sounds like it will be impressive as well. A blend of apples, cranberries, and cherries sounds good enough as is, but throwing that into a rum barrel takes it to another level. Let’s get into it
Pours an opaque pinkish red with a finger of pinkish white head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
The nose presents a rather even blend of fruit for something rather complex. I’m picking up on aromas of cherry pit, tart cranberry, earthy cinnamon, apple skin, lemon zest, wet hay, tannic red wine, stone, sharp oak, smooth rum, and a touch of leather
It’s pretty similar in taste, though with an added tartness that is much appreciated. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tart cherry, apple cider, tart cranberry, lemon zest, vanilla, wet hay, earthy wheat, wildflower honey, sharp oak, and light rum. The swallow brings notes of apple cider, cherry pit, tart cranberry, earthy cinnamon, vanilla custard, lemon zest, wet hay, smooth rum, bready malt, and light oak
A medium body pairs with moderate prickly carbonation, resulting in a sharp yet slick beer. Finishes slightly sticky but dries out over time
This one is very good. Definitely a unique medley of flavors going on here
