Bottle, black color, little head, coconut floaties.

Peanut butter, m and Ms, chocolate, coconut, fudge, bourbon, oak. Tastes like a bourbon soaked monster cookie. Smooth, warming, flavorful. Very enjoyable.

Pours an inky jet black that allows a touch of light through it. It has no head at all, clearly robbed by the oily toasted coconut. Still, it’s as dark and ominous as the the name suggests. Like a glass dipped into the water of the River Styx.

The nose on this beer is incredible and complex, changing dramatically as it warms up, taking you along the journey of its aging timeline. Starts with a blast of rich vanilla ice cream, caramelly oaky bourbon, and white cake batter. As it warms, the coconut emerges, and only gets stronger as the temperature rises.

The aroma was going to be tough to match, but it’s nearly managed it. The barrel characteristic really comes through, with warming sensation to accommodate the brownie batter, floral vanilla, and oily coconut. The finish is good and bitter, with very tame sweetness.

No carb at all, and it does finish a bit thin. All that time in a barrel may be contributing, but it’s on par with other Troon stouts I’ve had.

Overall, it’s an awesome beer that could have benefited from a bit more carb and body. But with aromas like that, it was always going to be a winner.
