Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.80%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Photon is our light and crushable American Pale Ale loaded with pacific northwest hops. It pours a very hazy orange, releasing well-blended notes of apricot, tangerine, peach, mango, and pineapple. It tastes of soft juicy tropical fruits, hop resins, and a hint of biscuit. A smooth rounded bitterness with a touch of dryness ensures you’re ready for the next sip. This drinking experience is further enhanced with a soft and billowy mouth-feel that has made this the go to ale for the EQ crew, especially when a productive day needs to follow a fun night.

Hazy pale orange with a finger of bright white head. Decent lacing.

Creamy citrus in the nose with a little peach behind.

More peach-forward in the taste, still somewhat on the light side, with an earthy, tea-like quality added to the mix. Very little bitterness, with a lightly fruity finish.

Light bodied with strong carbonation.

The tea quality here isn't to my personal taste, but this is still a very solid take on a delicate, refreshing, NE-style pale ale.

Pours a light matte orange color. Completely opaque Thick frothy white head dissipates slowly leaving behind a residual layer of sudsy foam and tons of white lacing. Gorgeous looking beer.

Aroma has notes of tropical fruits, orange, mango, and peach. Incredibly aromatic and pungent - especially for an APA. Quite nice!

Flavor has notes of orange, mango, peach, biscuit malt backbone with some light hop notes. There is a touch of grassy hops on the finish but no real bitterness. Very nice depth of flavor for an APA - really it drinks like an IPA. Hint of sweetness to the beer that compliments it quite well.

Feel is full bodied for an APA with a moderate amount of carbonation. As you drink the beer the finish starts to dry the mouth out a bit and it takes on a drier finish.

Overall its a fantastic APA - just everything you'd want in a low ABV beer - lots of flavor and aroma while being easy drinking.

A: Poured from the growler into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. Body is hazy golden-apricot with a 1-finger white head on top. Good amount of sheets of lace on the glass.

S: Very strong nose for an APA: Juicy tropical fruit, with ripe mango, papaya and pineapple.

T: Follows the nose, with a big rush of pineapple juice and tropical fruit in general, then a bit of citrus (oranges, tangerines) and ripe apricot or under-ripe peach. Finishes with a faint piney bitterness that provides a bit of balance.

M: Felt a bit thin at first, but after a few sips, I no longer feel that way. Juicy in feel, call it medium in heft, maybe a touch lighter.

O: Really good stuff - a nice NE-style APA. Packs a lot of flavor into a sub-5% ABV beer.
