Notes / Commercial Description:
EQM – is the first beer that I (Pete) ever made in Feb of 2013. Being me, I tried to create an intensely hoppy beer… but I also liked this specific amber malt… but I also was/am obsessed with citrus so I included some orange zest to balance the biscuit qualities of the malt. What started out as a trainwreck of an idea, ended in up as a unique delicious creation that balances the interplay of a vast array of flavors. EQM is the chemical symbol for when a system reaches equilibrium. Ricardo ended up loving it and we decided to open a brewery.

We brewed this beer for the first time in years as homage to our humble beginnings almost 5 years ago. This beer is contains a blend of hops now at the rate of our dHop series with a healthy dose of a specific British Amber malt. This beer was then allowed to rest on Cara Cara orange peels for enough time to incorporate a subtle orange into its experience. EQM pours a very hazy brown emmiting aromas of biscuit and orange buoyed by a strong hoppy backdrop. The flavor follows the aroma with juicy orange biscuits in the forefront. A soft mouthfeel and a firm bitterness keep this beer drinkable and balanced.

Pounder can into a snifter appears a hazy copper with huge white froth that is quite a bit excessive to the point where it comes climbing out the can.

It smells carbonic/metallic somewhat weedy and soapy.

The taste is ever so slightly fruity but then ventures off into tangy land. Not at all what one would expect in an IPA/DIPA or brown ipa or whatever this is suppose to be.

It is light bodied, excessively carbonated and seems like something is most certainly wrong here. This was a drain pour for all 3 of us who ventured into trying it.

Pours a murky brownish orange, with a thick cap of head.

Smell is a bit weird, roasty and biscuity but still juicy nd fruity.

Taste is somewhat akin to a Black IPA, but not quite. Brown ale meets juicy IPA more likely. Roasty malt and breadiness collides with a medium bitterness and some juicyness.

Mouthfeel is medium and soft, well carbonated.

Overall, this is more weird than great. Drinkable, but not something I would buy again.

Murky amber color with light beige head. Aroma some white grapes, earthy hops, biscuits and some dried citrus fruits. Taste follows with some toasted malty notes, biscuits, astringent orange rind on the finish, also a hint of green coffee beans. Medium body, medium minus carbonation. Really nice aroma but the taste has that light astringent/tart note.

16oz. can into Night Shift stemware.

Gotta be one of the least appetizing looking beers I've ever seen. Like the runoff from a dirt road after a storm. Nose is exactly what you'd expect from a brown ale/IPA hybrid. Hints of nuttiness, citrus, overripe pineapple, toffee and roasted malt. Very unique but a little confused. Beer opens coarse and nutty. Hints of hazelnut shell, roasted malt, burnt coffee upfront. Some citrus, pineapple and a juicy hop presence in the back. End is more nuttiness and unrefined brown sugar mixed with a tropical fruit punch at the finish. Body is light to medium with moderate carbonation. Prickly in the mouth and aggressive going down. Doesn't really help to meld the vastly contrasting flavors here.

This beer is confused... and not in a good way. Equilibrium doesn't miss very much but there's a lot wrong with this beer.
