Fluctuation Wave takes our beloved DIPA Fluctuation, supersizes the hop bill, adds a touch of lactose, and uses our revised hop process. The tasting notes for this are simple: This beer is the DIPA version of Straight Outta The Laboratory with even more EQ juice and a smooth lactose finish.

Saw a few beers from Equilibrium that were highly rated and thought I’d give this a try. It hides the ABV well, with a nice mouth feel and a bit of peach and pineapple flavor in the mix.

Poured into a Tree House glass a very nice cloudy yellow color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus off-white head, which also leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a very nice citrus complex (oranges, tangerines, pineapple, grapefruit, mango, apricots, nectarines, peach, melon, papaya), very nice diesel like. The taste is very nice, hoppy, malty, with a very nice citrus complex (oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, apricots, nectarines, peach, melon, papaya), a nice little sweetness, very nice diesel like. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a very tasty beer. MilkShake! Orange Julius! Addictive!

Let's hope there's only a touch of lactose within. Things don't start well with an extra foamy white head, looking sticky and uneven. This was obtained by a careful pour of a room temperature pint can into a clear glass Imperial pint mug. The color is a dull orange-amber. Of course it's murkily opaque, what milkshake beer isn't? The smell is pretty hop strong, sort of piney, but with notes of citrus. Missing is any reference to malt, which is necessary to make a truely great IPA. The taste is pretty good, with the lactose somewhat making up for a shortage of good barley malt. The hoppiness is at a pleasant level and seems more prominent during the finish and aftertaste. But, this is not a hop bomb. There is body, but with lactose the likely suspect, it's a bit sticky. This is a nicely hopped DIPA, with very little discernable taste of its ABV. It has lactose, but this is a hybrid between a real DIPA and a milkshake IPA. Lovers of the traditional style of this category will miss the solid barley malt contributions, which always add more taste complexity. Still, it's a slightly better than average Double.

Beautiful hazy pineapple color with a sudsy white head that laces the glass nicely, this gorgeous beer is hurling citrus aromas with impunity, particularly dank grapefruit, pineapple, and mango.
The taste is dank, juicy citrus, and exceptionally satisfying, with a soft mouthfeel. Truly delicious beer from an iconic brewery.
