Collaboration with Civil Society Brewing

When Karl and Evan were up to Collab there was a lot of fun about one of our favorite 80’s movies because of Pete’s Cobra Kai inspired jean jacket vest (see Collab pic from a few weeks ago. Shout out to Matty!). Not knowing then that this beer would be released in a time of crisis to friends, peers, and industry; it sends an important message of resilience and not giving up. As taught by Mr. Miyagi: Much of life’s adversity is out of your control and can seem unfair, but that’s no excuse to accept defeat. These situations can be a key component of growth. Covid-19 may be sweeping our legs now, but let’s show them our Crane Kick. We hope you’re hanging in there and staying safe.

Flaked oats and wheat make up the base before a Citra and Simcoe whirlpool. We dry hopped it with Citra, Galaxy, Sabro, Motueka and Simcoe. Sweep The Leg pours a bright tangerine with notes of a big tropical fruit salad. The taste is ripe tropical island fruit, flaked coconut, and assorted citrus in a creamy #EQjuice forward finish. This beer will sweep your leg if you’re not careful with it.

Can: Poured hazy/cloudy bright orangey/yellow color ale with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of juicy citrusy hops notes with some dank notes and some residual sugar notes. Taste is a great mix of juicy hops notes with some residual sugar notes and citrusy and dank notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Solid TIPA while also bordering on over the top but retaining just enough balance.

16 ounce can poured into a Great Divide snifter. Pours hazy orange juice orange. Good head, leaves quick, bit of lacing left behind.
Smells of a fresh tropical fruit cocktail with a citrusy whiff of grapefruit, lightly roasty, hop piney resin.
Taste is joosey joose, caramel, good hop note, bitter finish. It does not carry the overwhelming sweetness most TIPAs tend to have. Good alcohol punch.
Feel is typical juice IPA. Mid-carb, thick, little bit resiny.
Overall, this was almost great for the first couple of hits, but seemed to lose its momentum as it sat for a bit.
I like that it’s an Equillibrium collab with a Florida brewery, Civil Society. They brought the fruit basket.,.

16oz can from Tavour. Hazy yellow golden, small foamy head fades to ring. Aroma is tropical fruit, melon, oranges. Taste is citrus zest, fruit salad, light bitterness. Taste kind of fades away to a dull finish.

Yellow to gold in color with a hazy complexion with a quarter inch of eggshell white on top. Heavy, soapy lacing is present. The aroma is of green onions and earthy, vegetal hops. I’m tasting green veggies and onions. The mouth is resinous and sticky.

16oz can. Poured out a cloudy, golden orange color with a good-sized, off-white head of fluffy foam. It left behind sticky rings of lace. It smelled of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, toasted caramel and some resin. Big, juicy, tropical fruit taste with sweet caramel and a piney bitterness.

Pours an opaque orange with three fingers of off-white foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is pineapple, papaya, tangerine, and orange zest with ripping, dripping intensity. Some doughy malt and fruity yeast sit behind, but it's otherwise intense hops throughout. Flavor profile brings that same, hard-hitting hop combo - papaya, tangerine, grapefruit, and orange zest. It has a little grating acidic tropical fruit zest at the back, which pairs with mild green notes for an aggressive back half. It never dips into overly sweet, but the semi-abrasive back half is a little alarming. It certainly emphasizes the alcohol content. Mouth feel is medium in thickness. Texture is driven by a fine chalk throughout, which is a little more pronounced at the onset than the finish. Overall, a heavy hop forward beer, which is exactly what should be expected from a Triple IPA. It showcases tropical fruits without being a sugar bomb.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 16oz can.
