The Julia Set is named after the French mathematician Gaston Julia. This complex set exists as a by-product of the Mandelbrot set and was devised while studying complex dynamics during the early 20th century. This set of complex numbers can cause drastic changes in the sequence of iterated functions.

Tying this into the newest beer of our series, we scaled up from Fractal using a super simple grain bill of 2-Row and our specific fractal fermentation profile before intensely hoping it with a Mosaic and El Dorado whirlpool and a dry hop of Citra, Mosaic, Strata and El Dorado. Super Fractal Julia Set pours a vivid hazy yellow with an aroma of tropical citrus, ripe red berries, and candied lemon peel. Big flavors of navel orange, mango, stone fruit, currants, and berry come alive in a dangerously drinkable and smooth #EQjuice finish. The quest to have you seeing spirals and weird shapes continues.

APPEARANCE (3.5) - Already looking better than Ghost in the Laboratory, with far less particulate and better head retention. I was a little worried this would be an extremely even moreso bitter mess, but this is giving me hope.

AROMA (3.5) - Again, much better here. Sweet, candied lemon pith and dank green tea aroma. Certainly not my favorite DIPA aroma, but inviting. The date on Ghost was about six weeks out, but this can doesn't have a date in sight.

TASTE (3.75) - Mostly just a more pleasant rendition of the Ghost flavor profile. Bittersweet, candied pith, with smooth dankness. Definitely not picking up any of the tropical notes, or orange, or stonefruit. Currants, perhaps. Candied lemon peel, sure. It's just not what I was hoping for. So far, compared with, say, an actual NEDIPA like a Trillium Cutting Tiles or a Hill Farmstead Double Galaxy, this brew is woefully lacking in both depth and character. It'a a pale comparison.

Feel (3.0) - It's fine, if a bit light for a 10%+ DIPA. It does not; however, get shredded by pithy, green, aspirin-like bitterness, so that's a point or half of one in it's favor.

Overall (3.0) - It's just fine. It's WAY overpriced for the quality if you want to take that into account, and absolutely not a beer you should chase if you're chasing very good New England style DIPAs. It is not worth $5 a can, you can get mindblowingly good DIPAs at that price, probably locally, even at your shop down the corner in Arizona or Colorado. Not worth your time or money.

Had this beer at a nice beer store in Austin while Jonelle was Foxtrotting! Poured from a can into a plastic pint cup. Murky orange/yellow color with little head but good lacing. Thick and slushy beer. Smell and taste of mango, peach, apricot and guava. Some sweet vanilla. Pleasant thick smooth feel. I enjoyed it immensely as I talked with the denizens of the beer store.

16oz can. Poured out a slightly cloudy, golden orange color with a small, white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of grapefruit, pineapple, orange, bready malt and resin. Sweet tropical fruit taste with toasted caramel and a piney bitterness.

A 1 pint can, canned on 21st April 2022, poured into a winebar glass.

Appearance: A hazy orange colour with a big three finger beige head that had good retention and left lots of nice lacing.

Aroma: Tropical and citrus notes, pineapple, guava, orange juice, lime zest.

Taste: Juicy, tropical and citrus fruits, mango, pineapple, guava, orange, lemon zest, with notes of melon. Nice bitterness on the finish with ever so slight booziness.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, medium to full bodied with soft to moderate carbonation.

Overall: A very easy to drink NE Triple IPA that’s very juicy and has a nice bitterness to it, and doesn’t feel like 10.5% ABV at all.

Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass canned on 4/21/22. Pours a very hazy orange with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves thin webs of lace with excellent retention. 4.5

Aroma papaya, peach, pineapple, mandarin, cantaloupe, mango, and apricot. 4.25

Taste papaya, peach, pineapple, cantaloupe, mango, and apricot well balanced. 4.25

Mouthfeel follows it is sweeter than most, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 10.5% big flavor but easy going down. 4.5

Overall this is real good, I almost find them sweeter than most and this is no exception, but still a real nice NETIPA. 4.5
