Drank from a 500ml (1 pint .9 floz) bottle purchased on Tavour
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a shimmery and viscous, total pitch black and was reminiscent of used motor oil. There was no true head nor any lacing. However, as the liquid settled, a fine, saddle brown collar encircled the body.
The nose was oddly savory and quite unique. Peanut notes dominated. The peanut character was more akin to sticking your nose into a bag of unshelled peanuts rather than a typical, candy-like, peanut butter aroma. Baker’s chocolate was quite apparent as well. A touch iron-y and metallic. There was a rich malty note that was somewhat roasty but also a touch sweet. Loads of boozy, bourbon-y warmth too. Bit of vanilla and graham cracker character. As the beer sat, the sweetness came forth. The dark chocolate presence also intensified and took on a rich fudgey-ness.
The flavor profile was also unique and came across as sweeter and more straightforward than the aroma. Rich malty notes were quite apparent up front. Nice melding of roasted and caramel malts. Big dark chocolate presence too. Some peanut butter appeared as the beer moved along the palate. Hint of vanilla. More dark chocolate and rich caramel character on the back end. The beer finished with roasted malt notes and a lingering, boozy kick. Like in the nose, there was a unique savory-ness here as well.
The mouthfeel was definitely the most impressive aspect of the beer. It was super oily and viscous. Full bodied for the style. Super creamy and slick. The liquid contained a fine, mellow effervescence that fluffed up beautifully on the palate. By the drink’s end, the sugars in the beer left a slightly sticky film on my lips.
Peanut Butter S'mores Blueprint is an unusual beer that was neither sweet nor particularly well balanced. Peanut butter infused stouts have a tendency to be either really well executed or rather odd, and this one was definitely skewed towards the latter.
