Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates to sparse patches with no lacing, just a few bubbles around the edge and some tiny floating specks that appear to be coconut. Aroma of dark toasted malt, molasses, coconut, mixed nuts, cocoa and vanilla; nice dessert profile. Flavor is dark toasted malt, coconut, vanilla, dark chocolate and a touch of maple syrup. Very thick, almost viscous creamy mouthfeel with light carbonation. This is a stout that really seems to be trying to make its way into the dessert world instead of the stout world. The viscousity of the body is evident on pouring and is noteable in mouth feel, like drinking a thin cake batter. Flavor follows with great chocolate, vanilla and nut flavors. Although several nuts are listed, including some normally very distinct ones like almond and peanuts, the nut flavors are quite blended with none really standing out. The vanilla and light coconut are very nice. Not getting much maple syrup, but that is fine because this has enough going on already. A thick, decadent dessert stout that almost deserves the label of pastry stout due to its body, rather than taste. My first non-IPA from equilibrium and a solid introduction to their stouts. Stiff price point, but worth the price of admittance. Needs a little more carbonation, but otherwise excellent.
