This beer explores the best of the East and West coast hoppy styles using an aggressive west coast water profile, a base of 2row, wheat, and chit malt before a whirlpool of Simcoe and Columbus and a Simcoe, Columbus, and Citra dry hop. Pouring a hazy golden yellow, we get pronounced aromas of apricot, citrus peel, and earthy pine. Hop-forward and assertive flavors start with mixed citrus, yuzu, pine, and melon with a touch of apricot and a juicy but slightly dry finish, complemented by a pointed bitterness, bringing you a bit of each coast in every sip.

More of an NEIPA versus a double but tastes great. Clean finish. Hoppy but it doesn’t bite your face off. A very easy drinking double so be careful out there!

The pour that emptied the contents of a pint can into a clear glass liter mug shows something that looks much more like an overly starched modern NEIPA than anything in the West Coast style. It's obviously the excessive stark white foam on top. It's receding as it often does, unevenly and unattractively, leaving erratic lacing inside the glass. At least there's some sharp pineyness to the aroma, rather than a predominantly starchy aspect. There is some starch to inhale, but it's clean, so likely there's much more oats than wheat included here. This presents another characteristic of oat laden brews, an almost murky looking liquid that's drabbly apricot-amber. It drinks more like the starched up East Coast style the that from the other side of the country. It's mild, especially up front, although the pine referenced contribution does come through at the finish. But, it's not enough to overtake the tropical fruity type of flavors that prevail. After the foamy mess subsided, a nice head sustained and left some pretty stratified glass lacing. The mouthfeel is fine and the alcohol is nicely carried by it and the taste. This does have some qualities from both opposite coastal styles. But instead of having a Kansas average, it's a little unbalanced and only gets as far west as Ohio.

O-Solid. More often than not, these style mash-ups end up tasting like mush. Not here. Well done.

Canned on: ??????

A - Opaque dark golden orange color with dense creamy white lacing.

S - Big citrus, peach, and earthy peppery spice dominate the nose.

T - Citrus, peach, apricot, some woodiness, and subtle pine. Ends with a slight citrus / pine bitterness.

M - Big chewy body with prickly carbonation.

O - Aroma and the nose don't match up. Still, and enjoyable beer. Wish I knew the canned on date...looking at you Equilibrium.
