not at all what i expected from this, or ever really expect from this style, which tends to be much more copper than pale in my experience, but is actually brewed with rye bread here apparently, not just rye malt. interesting recipe to say the least, but maybe not as drinkable overall as i hoped it would be, my first beer from these guys. hazy and thick looking, but with a nice head from the tap, different than other roggen types, i thought the rye bread made it kvass, not sure the specifics there, but it drinks like a heavy pale ale with a bit of baked richness and density to it, high gluten and stretchy almost in texture, which i dig, its bubbly and off dry, but its filling in a good way. i think i wanted to taste the rye more, not the bread so much, it seems almost under flavored for being is sturdy as it is, but its also oddly malty, the whole thing is unique in a rather subtle way, even tangy like a sourdough for a second, but i just dont love it personally, and based on its modest ratings here, it looks like i am not alone. maybe a better idea than an actual pint of beer, but i had fun with this anyway...
