New Version at 7.2% and 71 IBU IPA brewed Amarillo, Simcoe and Citra. Almost all the hops were added during the whirlpool. When fermentation was almost complete the beer received three rounds of dry hopping.
I added the commercial description because it seems that this beer has changed over time.
Very nice West Coast Style IPA with bitterness and some tropical fruit juiciness. They call it West Coast but I feel like it's a hybrid. Really nice stuff.
Update/full review from crowler on 3/31/2019. No changes to score, but reaffirmation that this beer is a very good West Coast IPA.
This beer is as bright as can be. They call it a West Coast IPA and it certainly looks how I would expect. Crystal clear, translucent, golden amber color with a densely packed, frothy, bone white head. Some streams of carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass. Lots of lacing. A really attractive IPA.
The aromas are not jumping out the glass, but notes of sweet bready malt, pine, grass, earthy/spicy hops that remind me of dried parsley/oregano, lemon and orange citrus.
The flavor is orange/lemon citrus, and again, some earthy and spicy hop flavors. Some grapefruit pith. A sweet malt profile that quickly shifts to bitter hops mid and back palate. The finish is long, bitter and semi dry.
The mouthfeel is nice. Moderate carbonation that pricks the tongue a bit. Neither full bodied nor syrupy, nicely competing the seemingly, relatively low 6.4% ABV.
Here we have a solid, West Coast style IPA that perfectly meets my anti-haze needs. It’s defining characteristics are the bright appearance and the nice bitterness.
