Reviewed shortly after bottle release. Poured from 22 oz. bottle into a Wet Ticket pint glass at slightly below room temperature. It pours an oily, inky black with dark walnut hues at the bottom of the glass, and a large, fluffy, light khaki-colored head and a creamy film of lacing. On the nose there is roasted malt, chocolate, coconut, vanilla, char, and just a hint of bourbon. The taste opens with some sweetness: coconut, vanilla, and baker's chocolate, but it quickly becomes quite bitter with abundant earthy char, burnt nuts, tobacco ash, and a pleasant hint of bourbon, which adds to the flavor without being boozy. One thing I really like is that the coconut and vanilla are fairly delicate and it doesn't taste like it's loaded with adjuncts. For a Porter it has a creamy, viscous mouth feel with a low level of carbonation, and at 8.8% it's a substantial brew. Overall, this is nicely done. It's my first dark beer from Wet Ticket and I wouldn't hesitate to try another.
